Sullivan Charges from 12th to Claim Throwback Night Sprint Car Victory at I-90

HARTFORD, S.D. (May 30, 2026) — Throwback Night at I-90 Speedway produced a memorable performance in the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars as Andrew Sullivan stormed from the 12th starting position to score a dominant feature victory. The Arnold’s Park, Iowa driver wheeled his family’s No. 91 machine through traffic and took command on lap nine. Once out front, Sullivan quickly stretched his advantage and was never challenged, crossing the finish line 6.5 seconds ahead of the competition. Logan Kafka led much of the early portion of the feature before settling for second. Four-time track champion and current points leader Lee Goos Jr. earned hard charger honors after advancing 13 positions to finish third. Bayley Ballenger crossed the stripe fourth while Gavin Gregory completed the top five. One of the night’s notable stories belonged to Micah Schliemann, the all-time winningest sprint car driver in I-90 Speedway history. Making his first appearance at the track since 2014, Schliemann raced his way into the feature through a heat race transfer position and then charged from 13th to finish sixth [Read More]

Voeltz Scores Emotional First Career IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Victory at I-90

HARTFORD, S.D. (May 16, 2026) — A long-awaited breakthrough finally came Saturday night for Michalob Voeltz at I-90 Speedway. The Madison driver held off repeated challenges and a dramatic series of restarts to capture his first RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car feature victory. Starting fifth, Voeltz kept his cool while three-time defending track champion and reigning IMCA National champion Lee Goos Jr. charged through the field late in the race. Despite the pressure from Goos, who advanced from 11th, Voeltz was able to pull away in the closing laps to secure his first win of the season. The victory also earned him a $200 bonus from fellow driver Nick Barger of Barger Construction. The triumph marked Voeltz’s first victory at I-90 Speedway since 2014, when he won six times in a Chevy Beretta in local Stock Car competition. Goos ended the race second. “Longhair” John Lambertz delivered the drive of the night, racing from 19th on the starting grid after transferring through the B feature to finish third. Ryan Bickett advanced from 10th to fourth while Gunnar [Read More]

Todd Stinehart: Thirty Years Down the Road

By Ben Deatherage WASECA, Minn. (May 14, 2026) — The highways out of southern Minnesota run long and flat, cutting through fields that seem to stretch forever. On summer weekends, those roads lead in every direction. North toward Arlington. West toward Worthington. South into Iowa. And more often than not, somewhere along those roads, Todd Stinehart is hauling a race car. Not because he has to. Because he loves it. The No. 7S Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified has become a familiar sight across the Upper Midwest, rolling into pit areas at places like Kossuth County Speedway, Hancock County Speedway, Arlington Raceway, and Worthington Speedway, where in 2025 Stinehart finally achieved something that had eluded him for three decades. A track championship. Thirty years after climbing into a race car for the first time. “Thirty years and that was my first track championship,” Stinehart said. “It’s something I never really thought I would do.” For a driver who has spent most of his racing life doing things his own way — loading the trailer himself, working on [Read More]

Barger Brothers Shine at I-90; Bickett Adds Historic Win

HARTFORD, S.D. (May 9, 2026) — Nate Barger led the Barger brothers from Madison to a one-two finish in Saturday’s RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car feature at I-90 Speedway. Starting fifth, Barger worked his way to the front in the 20-lap main event and capitalized during an intense battle for the lead. Heavy lapped traffic in the closing laps allowed brother Nick Barger to close the gap, but Nate held strong at the finish to secure the victory. Nick Barger crossed the line second to complete the family sweep at the top of the podium. Lee Goos Jr. finished third, while Michalob Voeltz and Corbin Erickson completed the top five. Earlier in the evening, I-90 Speedway also completed the make-up feature from May 2, and it was veteran Ryan Bickett putting together a dominant performance. The Ramona driver guided the No. 17B machine to Victory Lane after leading all 20 laps in the caution-free main event. The win further cemented Bickett’s place in track history, as he now stands as the third-winningest sprint car driver in I-90 [Read More]

Henderson Charges to Redemption Win at I-90 Speedway

HARTFORD, S.D. (Jul. 12, 2025) –– Sam Henderson delivered a determined and emotional victory in the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car special at I-90 Speedway, rebounding from a crash the night before to score his first IMCA win of the 2025 campaign. Just hours after suffering heartbreak at Jackson Motorplex while leading, the Sullivan Racing crew went into overdrive to field another machine for Henderson, a 23-year-old standout from Sioux Falls. The team prepped the backup no. 91H, and Henderson made it count. Starting sixth on the grid, Henderson steadily carved through the field during the 25-lap main event. Early race leader Andrew Sullivan, in the primary no. 91, looked strong after drawing the pole in the frontstretch redraw and paced the first half of the feature. But disaster struck again for the team, as Sullivan cut a right rear tire while holding the lead. Henderson inherited the top spot and never looked back, fending off a late-race challenge from Dusty Ballenger to secure the win. Lee Goos Jr. completed the podium with a solid third-place showing.

IMCA RaceSaver Sprints join Saturday shows at I-90

HARTFORD, S.D. – A work day at the track and a barrage of phone calls from IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers have owner and promoter Lyle Howey III convinced that quite a few folks in the Hartford area are excited about the re-opening of I-90 Speedway. The sanctioned Sprint division will return to IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Saturday night programs this season at the South Dakota speedplant, idle for the past three years. The single Friday night date during the May 11-Sept. 7 point season is July 5. “There’s a lot of excitement that I-90 is opening back up,” said Howey, noting the hundred or so volunteers who showed up to help tear down the old bleachers last December. “I think the car count is going to be good for the Sprints. I’d anticipate 15 to 20 a week.” A former IMCA Sprint Car driver, Howey is the RaceSaver inspector for South Dakota and teched at another track in the state last year. “We were looking for an affordable Sprint Car class here,” he [Read More]
