Bolac sprints to winged win at Dixieland

By Jim Haines ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (June 21, 2024) – Home track advantage worked out well for Daren Bolac, winner of the Fast Friday Virginia Sprint Series feature at Dixieland Speedway. Jerald Harris and Bolac paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature field to green on the hot summer night but the race track was perfect with multiple lanes, smooth and fast. Harris went to the lead and was staying low as Bolac went high and was all over Harris every lap with Matthew Leach staying in touch in third with a fast closing Chris Humblet in fourth. Ware is fastest in Fast Friday finale

(July 23) – It’s been a few years of top finishes but no wins since 2017 but that all changed as it was back in the Virginia Sprint Series winner’s circle for Chris Ware at Dixieland Speedway. Ware shot back to take the win in the final Fast Friday event of the year for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series at Elizabeth City. He and Matt Mullins paced the field to green with Mullins out first up high and Ware right behind with Daren Bolac in third. Ware kept on the pressure, Mullins bobbled off turn two and Ware shot to the front, bringing Jerald Harris with him on the bottom. Ware was smooth out front as Harris chased with Billy Hubbard now third and Mike Leraas fourth. Hubbard slipped and spun in turn two, resetting the field and giving them a chance at Ware but off he went again with Harris still second and Leraas third. This win marked Smith’s first triumph during the Winter Nationals, and he faced a challenging path to victory lane. The twenty-lap finale began with North Dakota’s Gabe Deschamp surging to the front from the initial start. Deschamp set a steady pace, but as the race continued, the top three competitors began to cluster together around the midway point. Smith and Taylor Kuehl were the two contenders trying to catch the leader. Thompson Outduels Richards to Win Night Three of Winter Nationals

The twenty-lap race began with Thompson leading, closely followed by Dillon Richards in second place. The non-stop feature saw the top two drivers pull away from the rest of the field, racing around the track bumper-to-bumper at time. As the race approached its final five laps, lapped traffic became a critical factor. Tension escalated when Richards pulled out of line and dove under Thompson as they approached the white flag. Heinrich Captures Stock Car Winter Nationals Glory with Last Lap Pass

The veteran driver from Fargo, North Dakota, who started in third position, earned his first career Winter Nationals feature victory. The 25-lap contest kicked off with Heinrich outpacing Gary Pesicka to lead the initial lap. From there, the two drivers engaged in a thrilling cat-and-mouse battle on the 3/8-mile clay oval. Pesicka’s patience paid off when he finally passed Heinrich on the eleventh lap. However, Heinrich refused to let him pull away and regained the lead with ten laps remaining.
