Norton, Roath collect $1,000 wins at Canyon’s Shootout special
PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 1-2) – Holiday weekend Shootout feature wins at Canyon Speedway Park put Guy Norton and Ryan Roath on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Norton scored the $1,000 IMCA Modified checkers Saturday at Canyon while Roath took home the same amount for the Sunday checkers. Norton and Roath tussled on opening night before finishing 1-2. John Parmeley led early before tangling with a lapped car; Chaz Baca borrowed a car from Jeff Stafford Sr. and led to lap 18, when brake issues took him out of contention. Bill Miller rounded out the top three. Parmeley again led early on Saturday while the ninth starting Roath worked his way up to second. Roath gained and then lost the lead to Jay Foster, who broke on the 19th circuit.
