Richards sails to 141 Captain of the Creek checkers

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (Aug. 20) – The win was great. His daughter’s reaction to finding the presentation check propped up against her bedroom door the next morning was even better. Kenny Richards started 13th, took the lead following back-to-back restarts just past midway and then outran a field of Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod heavy hitters in taking the $5,000 Captain of the Creek checkers Thursday at 141 Speedway. The big win came in a Jack Jones Dump Bar and Grill ride Richards hadn’t seen before qualifying started the night before. Jones and brother Jerry, the Two Old Guys Race Team, adjusted the pedals and steering wheel and Richards took it from there. “I had my fingers crossed we would even make it in. Then I hoped for a top 10. LaCrosse rules King of the Creek at 141

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 23) – With the green flag laps clicking off, the opportunity Benji LaCrosse has been waiting for finally came on the 36th time around the track Thursday at 141 Speedway. LaCrosse caught race-long leader Nick Strobbe and then led to the finish of the $5,000 to win King of the Creek main event for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. “It was awesome. I didn’t think I’d catch the 42 car (Strobbe) for a while,” LaCrosse said following the caution-free, 50-lapper and a quick dip in the infield pond at Francis Creek. “I knew I had to get him on the top. His car was really good on the bottom.” Strobbe, 13th in the event as a rookie last season, started from the pole and led Shawn Wagner across the stripe the first two laps. King of the Creek Stock Car checkers are good for $5,000

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers will battle for King of the Creek honors and a rich $5,000 payday at 141 Speedway July 22 and 23. Qualifying starts Wednesday night, with a $750 to win feature for IMCA Modifieds and $200 to win Mach-1 Sport Compact feature completing the program. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Thursday’s show also sports last-chance qualifying for the Stocks and a $500 to win feature for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Spectator admission is $20 for adults and $14 for seniors and students. Kids ages 10 and under get in free to the grandstand and pit passes are $30 each night. Gates open at 3 p.m. and an open practice starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. Grandstand admission is free and pit passes are $20 that evening. Free camping, with showers, is available on site. Thornton does it all in third straight IMCA Clash at the Creek win

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 18) – Ricky Thornton Jr. proved he can do it all again Thursday night, winning a third straight Clash at the Creek for IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway. Thornton banked another $10,000 after making the seven-hour trip from home solo, then outrunning Terry Phillips and Mike Mullen in a fast-paced 50 lap main event. “It’s pretty awesome. There were a lot of good cars here,” said Thornton, who worked lapped traffic as Phillips and Mullen narrowed the gap in the final circuits. “This is a crown jewel for IMCA and it always means a lot to win it.” Phillips was runner-up for a second straight Clash. FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – Prestige, bragging rights and a top check of $10,000 are on the line when IMCA Modified drivers from across the country converge on 141 Speedway for the Wednesday and Thursday, June 17-18 Clash at the Creek. The Clash is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event and pays a minimum of $750 to start. Ken Schrader is among the early entries for the 12th annual special. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods race for $1,000 to win both nights at Francis Creek. Gretz, Dix, Schneider win Big Three

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 27) – Greg Gretz held off a hard-charging Josh Long to claim the IMCA Modified feature win Saturday at 141 Speedway. It was his first win of the season. Gretz started up front and his racer was on point for 20 straight laps as he never relinquished the lead, while Long started ninth and quickly worked his way through the field. Long got to the second spot only to see the leader using a perfect line. Long searched high and low around the 1/3 mile but could never find enough to get past. An instant classic, as they say in the sports world, is what the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature brought to the table. Mullen rules King of the Creek, collects $5,000 IMCA Stock Car checkers at 141

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 18) – Mike Mullen got his feet wet in the division and got his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season last summer. He got his second win and a $5,000 check Thursday night at 141 Speedway. Mullen raced from eighth starting to rule the 50-lap King of the Creek special at Francis Creek, running in front of a field of heavyweights the last 30-plus circuits. “There’s a lot of good competition in this class,” Mullen said, after taking the checkers ahead of Eric Arneson, Luke Lemmens, Jeff Mueller and Jeremy Christians. “We went from eighth to first in winning our second heat on Wednesday and thought the track would be similar on Thursday. Christians cashes in at 141 Speedway

(July 6) – Jeremy Christians told Santa Claus he would take care of his own stocking stuffer present by taking home the $1,200 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car payday on Christmas in July Night Saturday at 141 Speedway. Christians played The Grinch to 38 other competitors. Christians and Rod Snellenberger drew the front row for the feature and Christians took quick advantage of his outside starting spot and got around Snellenberger. Snellenberger stayed with the leader but had heavy pressure from Shawn Havel, who made his way around Snellenberger and set his sights on the top prize. Christians rode around the rim of the speedway with Havel trying multiple lines throughout the event to try and make the pass. Havel got an A for effort but could never make a good enough charge. Christians never faulted and took home the win and $1,200 payday in front of Havel. Thornton repeats at 141 Clash with big IMCA Modified payday

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 20) – The much-traveled Ricky Thornton Jr. made another stop in victory lane Thursday night, this time at the end of a $10,000 payday. Thornton led the last 45 of the 50 laps in repeating as winner of the Clash at the Creek main event for IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway. “This event is definitely near the top of my list of wins. It’s huge,” he said. “The track fits my driving style and there were a lot of good cars here. Realistically, everyone in the feature had a shot to win it.” Pole starter Terry Phillips was second and 13th starting Hunter Marriott ended in third. Rounding out the top five were Jordan Grabouski and Tim Ward. Hard charger Joey Taycher took the initial green flag last in the field of 24 and finished 10th.
