Holley Performance renews awards for five IMCA divisions

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Drivers in five IMCA divisions chase a variety of awards from Holley Performance again in 2014. The Bowling Green, Ky., manufacturer and 16-year marketing partner has renewed a program benefitting IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod and IMCA Late Model competitors. Top eligible drivers in each of the five Modified regions receive 750 cfm gas or alcohol HP carburetors. Product certificates for $350, $250, $100 and $100 go to the next four drivers. Top three eligible drivers in both Stock Car regions receive 350 or 500 cfm carburetors. Fourth and fifth place drivers receive $100 product certificates while sixth through 10th place finishers each get $50. Northern and Southern SportMods determine claim engine recipients of 500 cfm carburetors or crate engine recipients of 650 cfm carburetors. Cole’s first Yates County Speedway visit ends with Friesen Chevrolet Empire State feature win

DUNDEE, N.Y. (June 15) – Matt Cole might have himself a new favorite track. Cole made his first visit to Yates County Speedway on Sunday and came away with his career-first Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series victory. “It’s a fun little track,” said the third-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver. “My luck at new tracks has been pretty good so far this season. Hopefully that’s something we can continue.” Keith Lamphere led much of the way before giving up the lead to Cole in the late going and finishing second. Rich Karlnoski, Bumps Scutt and Mike Griffin completed the top five. Gary Smith and Lamphere led the pack to green with Smith grabbing the early lead. XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour has June 19 date at Lee County

DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 16) – Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds see Thursday night action at Lee County Speedway. The XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour travels to Donnellson for a June 19 show that pays $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $7 for kids and free for children 10 and under when accompanying a paying adult. Mattison charges to Stock Car win in Redline Racing Parts North Star Series

SLAYTON, Minn. (June 13) – Gary Mattison raced better on the track than he drew for position. As a result, he drove away from the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field for his career-first Redline Racing Parts North Star Series feature win Friday night at Murray County Speedway. Mattison started 10th and caught defending champion Jim Larson and Matt Speckman after halfway for the lead and the eventual victory. “I went to the high side to pass,” Mattison said. “The car was good and I just tried to be patient.” Larson ended in second. Hard charger Jake Masters moved up 10 spots to third, Speckman was fourth and Jake Bruns completed the top five. Moyer cruises to $2,000 SportMod Challenge win

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 13) – Austin Moyer took home the $2,000 top prize in Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge at Davenport Speedway. Moyer led 41 of the 50 laps en route to the highest-paying victory of his career. He started fifth and took the lead from Greg Wichman on lap ten. Once in front, Moyer’s only serious challenge came from Dan Mohr, who three-wheeled his racecar around the high side the entire race. “It was a long race and I was glad when it was over,” admitted Moyer. “I couldn’t have been any happier.” Mohr had to settle for second, six car lengths off the pace, with Carter VanDenBerg a distant third. Humphries gains late lead, Sprint Series win at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 14) – The wait was worth it Saturday night for Tom Humphries. Humphries got his second Virginia Sprint Series win of the season Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Tony Harris had the lead for much of the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car headliner, pulling off with tire issues after relinquishing the point in the late going. Charlie Ware led to lap three when Tony Harris powered his way to the front and took off with Humphries, Brian Lawson and Jerald Harris all chasing. Tony Harris stayed strong before a caution waved for debris at halfway. Humphries got by and Harris slowed with a tire problem, then headed for the pits. Jerald Harris caught Lawson for second and took up the chase but by now it was too little too late as Humphries held on for the win. Hulin picks up first Marshalltown win of 2014

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 13) – Racer Hulin reeled in Eric Elliott on the fourth of 20 laps and led to the finish Friday, winning his first local IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature of the season at Marshalltown Speedway. Elliott took the lead on the opening circuit and eventually ended in fifth. Adam Larson found his way to the runner-up spot. Luke Wanninger was third and rookie Brandon Leeman was fourth. Clint Luellen prevailed in an eight-lap tussle with Taylor Musselman to win the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event for the fourth time this season at Marshalltown. Up to the same task, Austin Luellen worked his way through the lapped traffic late in the race to take his fourth local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win of the season. John Watson worked his way from 11th to second. Michael Jaennette led from lap two to the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Dart hits milestone with 50th IMCA Modified win at Thunderhill

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (June 14) – Todd Dart reigned supreme with his third IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win of the season Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway. One of Thunderhill’s most decorated racers added another milestone to his storied career. Early on it was Tyler Hackett pacing the field from his front row starting spot. Hackett battled mechanical gremlins the first month of the season and traced the problem to a crushed float in the carburetor. Now running up to snuff, he worked the low groove with Dart and James Tebon giving chase. Dart enjoyed the virtue of another great racing surface has he hammered the cushion, reeling in and passing Hackett before midway. Tebon worked to the runner-up spot but was never able to challenge.Dart cruised to his 50th IMCA Modified victory at Thunderhill in front of a roaring crowd. Jerovetz finds IMCA Modified redemption at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 14) – On Friday night, Troy Jerovetz led at the white flag and spun. Saturday night he redeemed himself by earning the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win. Mike Joski and Troy Jerovetz started on the front row and for the majority of the race they stayed the top two. Joski led the opening four laps before it was General time. Jerovetz rode around the top of the track and into the lead on lap five. He built up a straightaway lead by halfway. Shawn Kilgore had forward bite all night as he worked his way to the front after starting 11th. Unfortunately for Kilgore the race went caution-free and Jerovetz had already checked out from the field.
