Mullen has $10,000 reasons to celebrate at Clash at the Creek

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 26) – Some guys never earn $10,000 in their career, let alone win that amount in one night. That is exactly what Mike Mullen accomplished with his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at 141 Speedway, leading all 50 laps of the Clash at the Creek. Twenty-four of the best Modified drivers in the country were pared from 69 entries, from 10 states, for the sixth annual special and Mullen started on the pole by virtue of two heat wins on Wednesday night. Mullen opened up strong with a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Darin Duffy. Jeff Taylor worked his way around Duffy by lap 20, right before the only caution of the race came out. When the race restarted, Mullen again forged ahead with Taylor in tow. Josh Long had started 13th on the field and started knocking off cars as he ran a smooth race down low. Buena Vista Raceway’s Suter Memorial sports $1,000 Stock Car prize

ALTA, Iowa (June 27) – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $1,000 to win at Buena Vista Raceway’s Wednesday, July 2 Kyle Suter Memorial. A minimum of $100 will be paid to take the green flag in the draw/redraw show. North Central Line Service sponsors the pre-holiday special, which also features IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Mach-1 Sport Compacts and BVR Bombers. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded in all divisions. Top five in Thunderhill Raceway IMCA Modified main get extra pay

The feature will pay $700 to win, second place pays $400, third pays $300, fourth pays $225 and fifth pays $200. Payout is unchanged from sixth on back. Cardinal’s Kelly Sheen Memorial guarantees big paydays in four IMCA divisions

EUNICE, N.M. (June 26) – Four IMCA divisions take their turn running for big paydays at Cardinal Speedway’s fifth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial Topless Shootout. Total purse for the Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 special is more than $20,000. As the name of the event implies, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods must remove all body panels above the deck, including the roof, sail panels and pillar posts. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $3,000 to win, Modifieds for $2,000, SportMods for $1,500 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500. A sponsor added $2,300 to the Stock Car purse so that feature now pays $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third, $800 for fourth, $500 for fifth, $250 for sixth, $200 for seventh, $150 for eighth, $125 for ninth and a minimum of $100 to start. Cook wins tune-up to Stock Car Shootout

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 25) – Jason Cook tuned up for next week’s Great American Budweiser Stock Car Shootout by winning Wednesday’s main event at Southern Iowa Speedway. Brandon Jay led early in the 18-lapper with Cook knocking on the door before the only caution of the race flew on lap two, when Damon Murty got sideways and collected Todd Reitzler, Doug Sylvester and Brock Welch. Murty got moving before the yellow came out, kept his spot for the ensuing restart and was briefly in second before Cook got the position back, then passed Jay for the lead on lap five. Cook appeared to be heading to the win but Murty and Cayden Carter didn’t make it easy for him. Carter grabbed the lead coming to the white flag but Cook took back coming to the checkered to pick up his first win at Osky. Carter, Murty, Corey Stout and Jay rounded out the top five. Rookie A.J. FAIRMONT, Minn. (June 26) – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are in the running for $1,000 to win and a berth on the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot Friday at Fairmont Raceway. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded for the June 27 event. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps start at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. General admission is $12 with students 18 and under admitted free. Cottage Grove Speedway set for Modified Nationals

That great event is next for the historic ¼-mile clay oval starting Friday, June 27 and concluding on Saturday, June 28. OSKALOOSA, Iowa – First place money has been upped to $2,000 for the headline event at Southern Iowa Speedway’s Wednesday and Thursday, July 2 and 3 Great American Stock Car Shootout. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars take top billing at the 19th annual event and the winner becomes eligible to qualify for the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s in September. (June 25) – Ten IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers have punched their tickets into Thursday’s $10,000 to win main event at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek. Mike Mullen of Suamico, Darin Duffy of Urbana, Iowa, Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Ark., Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., Scott Hogan of Vinton, Iowa, Eric Mahlik of Green Bay, James Tebon of Algoma, Troy Cordes of Dunkerton, Iowa, Johnny Whitman of DePere and Sean Jerovetz of Sobieski are locked into the show by virtue of their top 10 in the standings.
