Van Straten victorious in Oshkosh opener

(May 1) – Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway kicked off its 2015 racing season Friday night on a large scale as 153 teams checked in to compete on the very smooth and fast 1/3-mile clay oval. Travis Van Straten and John Heinz drew the front row for the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car main and pulled into the lead spots at the start. Dylan Heillmann, Joe Arndt and David Hoerning were scored behind the leader after the first couple laps were recorded. Van Straten held a couple car length lead through out the race and despite a final caution on lap nine was able to maintain the lead to collect his first feature win of the season. Heinz took second with Hoerning outdueling Heillmann to take third. The Automotive Supply Co IMCA Modifieds brought a field of 33 cars with 20 making the starting grid for the feature event. Gustins are among Marshalltown feature winners

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 1) – Team Gustin took home two feature wins Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway. Jimmy Gustin and Trent Jackson started on the front row of the Coors Light IMCA Modified feature and it was Gustin grabbing the lead. He was comfortable out front before the only race caution was displayed on lap eight for debris. Adam Larson took second away from Joel Rust and set his sights on the leader. Gustin, however, denied those challenges to take his 88th career win in the division and first at Marshalltown since April 26, 2013. Brian Irvine worked his way from 10th to third. Brandon Williams took the early lead in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, then gave way to Ryan King on lap five. King pulled away and appeared to be going on to take his first win at Marshalltown even with lapped traffic ahead but the caution came out with three circuits left. Ryan dominates Davenport opener

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 1) – Davenport Speedway jump-started the 2015 point season in a big way on Friday night as 124 racers took part in the Koehler Electric sponsored season opener. In the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action, Matt Ryan dominated the field. Ryan started on the pole and led all 25 laps despite a couple of late cautions. Ray Guss Jr., Andy Nezworski, and Jay Johnson all took turns in the runner-up position before Guss secured the spot. Nezworski finished third. Tony Von Dresky topped a huge field of Milan Heating and Air IMCA Modifieds. Rich Smith led the first four laps. Bruce Hanford used the high side to take the lead on lap five. On lap seven, Von Dresky used the very bottom of the racetrack to get by Hanford and set sail for victory lane. Hanford held on to finish second. Mitch Morris ran third. WELLINGTON, Kan. – Drivers finishing in the top 10 nationally in five IMCA divisions receive awards courtesy of Flow Design again in 2015. Carburetor spacers go to first through fifth place finishers in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod divisions. Season opener at Kossuth County Speedway

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (April 30) – No one had the answer to hometown hotshoe Austin Wolf as he cruised to a green, white, checkered finish in the feature in Thursday’s season-opening IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Kossuth County Speedway. Pole starter Mike Jergens was the runner-up with Tim Ward third. David Wickman earned his first win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Kevin Opheim finished second followed by Chad Palmer. Colby Fett drew the pole for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature and turned that plum position into a victory. Ben Schultze ended up in second place with Clay Evans taking third. Second try for opening fight Friday at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. – Last week the engines roared to life as cars took to the Salina Speedway’s 3/8 mile oval for the first time in 2015. It was short-lived, however, as severe storms closed in and forced the cancellation of the night’s events before they got started. Race teams and fans are now anticipating the second take on opening night Friday, May 1. All that was completed in last week’s show was hot laps, so this week’s racing will start from scratch, with seven divisions competing in qualifying heat races and features. Those divisions are the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Late Models, 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, Xtreme Motorsports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, and M&H Motors IMCA Sport Compacts. JC Dubil renews awards for Deery Series, IMCA Stock Car special events competitors

BETTENDORF, Iowa – JC Dubil continues an awards program benefitting Deery Brothers Summer Series and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special events drivers this season. Product certificates valued at $100 will be given at each of the 18 events in the IMCA Late Model tour and at 15 designated Stock Car specials. This is JC Dubil’s 17th season as an IMCA partner. All five weekly classes, Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds, Koehler Electric Street Stocks, Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMods and Roto-Rooter 4-Stocks, will be in action on the 1/4-mile dirt oval. Defending track champions are Justin Kay, Late Model; Doug Crampton, Modified; Bryce Garnhart, Northern SportMod; Donnie Louck, Street Stock; and Brandon Dahl, 4-Stock.
