Late restart opens door for Bouche

(May 2) – Defending track champ Dave Bouche used a late restart to steal Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory away from Billy LeMieux by inches at Thunderhill Raceway. LeMieux leapt from his front row starting spot to the lead early in the Stock Car headliner. Evan Madden hustled to the runner-up spot and began to put heavy pressure on LeMieux. At the midway point Madden worked the low groove, pulling even with the leader. LeMieux was able to keep his momentum up just enough to hold off Madden each lap. Madden encountered trouble in turn two, clipping the infield tire and causing his car to come to a halt, bringing out the caution with four laps remaining. Bouche used this to his advantage as the green flag few, diving under LeMieux. The duo raced door-to-door coming to the checkers with Bouche nipping LeMieux at the line by narrowest of margins. Noll nabs Canyon feature win

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. (May 2) – Jason Noll raced from ninth starting to win the Saturday World Vapor IMCA Modified main event at Canyon Speedway Park. The victory was his first locally of the season and came ahead of Mike Strobl, 11th starting Garrett Funk, Nate Warren and Shawn Zelenka.

Horsham flies fastest at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 2) – Tim Horsham topped the Saturday Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact main event at Eagle Raceway. “I’m dedicating this win and my whole season to my niece Kim Brigham. She’s suffering from an inoperable brain tumor and this is all for her,” Horsham said. He concluded the post-race interview by stating, “I really didn’t expect that win. I’m still learning how to drive these things. Lindsey (Theisen) sure let me know she was right behind me. On the restarts she was bumping me to remind me. I knew then I better get going.” Dylan Smith took advantage of a restart to take the lead and drive to the Kaplan University IMCA Modified checkers. Trevor Grossenbacher took the lead with four laps to go and sped to another Precise Racing IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory. Lance Borgman was the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod winner and Adam Armstrong was first in the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock main event.

Aikey adds Hershel Roberts Memorial trophy to Deery collection

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 3) – The driver with the most feature wins in 28-plus seasons of Deery Brothers Summer Series history now has a trophy from the Hershel Roberts Memorial to add to his collection. Jeff Aikey slipped past defending IMCA Late Model race winner and tour champion Justin Kay on the 14th of 58 laps Sunday at Quad City Speedway. He led the rest of the way in collecting his 64th career Deery victory and a $3,000 payday at the fifth annual event Kay set the fast pace for the first 13th circuits, then chased Aikey in heavy lapped traffic before finishing on his back bumper. Hard charger Matt Ryan raced from 13th starting to third. Ray Guss Jr., who’d driven for Roberts and won the 2011, 2012 and 2013 memorials, was fourth and point leader Andy Nezworski completed the top five. Harris speeds to victory at Natural Bridge

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (May 2) – Jerald Harris sped to his first Virginia Sprint Series victory of the season Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware out first. Linkenhoker, however, swept around to the top spot the next time around. By lap five, Harris was all over the leader and was in first when the next lap was scored. Linkenhoker and Ware stayed close as laps went by while Tom Humphries was moving up. With five to go, Humphries had made it to second with the front four close and flying high. Lapped traffic was in play on the run to the checkers, slowing Harris and giving Humphries one last shot, but they went under the checkered flag nose to tail with Harris out front. Abbas grabs IMCA RaceSaver Sprint debut feature at I-90

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D. (May 2) – Jeff Edgington appeared to have the field covered in the debut feature for the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars at I-90 Speedway Saturday night. He led the first 18 laps but the slightest of bobbles on the 19th lap was all Casey Abbas needed to grab the lead as the white flag was being displayed. Abbas went on to victory from there. Almost 10 years had passed since the last time Abbas found victory lane at I-90 Speedway. He won features in both a wingless sprint and a 360 sprint car in 2005.

Last lap pass nets Morrison win on opening night at Salina

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. (May 1) — Mother Nature finally shined on Salina Speedway on Friday as the Browynn Birdsong Childhood Cancer Awareness Night kicked off the 2015 season. The finish of the night occurred in the 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modified main event. Twenty-three of the best in the area checked in for the feature with Corey Lagroon showing the way for a majority of the race after starting third. Lagroon was challenged by numerous drivers before seventh starting Danny Morrison closed the gap. As the field took the white flag Morrison dived low in corners one and two and it stuck to overpower Lagroon out of two and to the finish line. Lagroon finished runner-up and Van Gemmill followed in third. Scott Miller has picked up plenty of wins in the past couple of seasons and continued his streak, this time aboard an IMCA-sanctioned Coors Light Stock Car. Krogmeier, Anders, get wins at 34 Raceway

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (May 2) – Chad Krogmeier and Bobby Anders were IMCA winners Saturday at 34 Raceway. Krogmeier put a new engine in his Pepsi IMCA Stock Car Friday night and went to the track on Saturday night to pick up his first win in a highly competitive field. Krogmeier took the lead from his front row start and was never seriously challenged. The battle for second was fierce as Shane Watts, Tommy Bowling, Jake Wenig and Ray Raker put on a show. With three laps to go, Watts took over the second spot for good followed by Raker and Bowling who had moved to the front from the rear of the field after being involved in a spin earlier in the race. Tri-State checkers fly again for Scroggins

(May 2) – Aaron Scroggins picked up his third victory of the season, and second straight IMCA SportMod checkers at Tri-State Speedway Saturday night In the final feature of the night at Pocola, Ken McCarty had the race won until encountering lapped traffic off the last turn on the final circuit. Todd Broyles finished third for the second week in a row. Johnny Bone Jr. took home the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win, surviving a late-race challenge by Shawn Walsh. Brent Holman repeated his third place finish from a week ago. Winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was Dale Richardson. Mike Weisman finished second while Chris Patterson ran third. The eighth annual Danny Martinez Jr. Memorial event was held in honor of the Fort Smith, Ark., police officer and Tri-State Speedway race car driver, fan and friend who was killed in the line of duty in March of 2007.

Former champs are first at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 2) – Former track champions Jerry Wilinski and Tracy Wassenberg both raced to their first wins of the year Saturday at the historic half mile Shawano Speedway. Mark Weisnicht took the lead on the opening lap of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature and wasted no time pulling to a considerable lead over Mitch Stankowski. With nearly a half straightaway lead by lap six, Weisnicht dropped off the pace and pulled pitside. This handed the lead to Stankowski. A caution flag then bunched the field back up. Wilinski and Stankowski swapped the lead ahead of hard-charging Matt Oreskovich, who had started 17th. Wilinski took the lead back following a lap 15 restart. He held off Stankowski and then Oreskovich after the final caution set up a three-lap shootout to the finish.
