Parker now carrying the keys to Merced Speedway

MERCED, Calif. – Ed Parker now carries the keys to the track he’s already been going to forever. The long-time fan and former driver and owner is the new promoter of Merced Speedway. Both Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will run Saturdays at the 1/3-mile clay oval beginning April 2. “I want to get my feet wet, get some races in and make this a great place for the racers,” said Parker, who took charge at Merced in February. “Right now, everything is baby steps. Top IMCA Modified prize is cool $1,000 at Junction’s Spring Thaw special

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds will race for a cool $1,000 to win at this weekend’s Mike Chapin Memorial Spring Thaw at newly-sanctioned Junction Motor Speedway. Qualifying for the Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compacts is Saturday, March 19. Last-chance qualifying and main events for all five divisions fill the Sunday, March 20 card. The Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. $2,000 is top Modified prize at Tri-State Kegger special

POCOLA, Okla. – Top prize for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds is $2,000 at Tri-State Speedway’s 37th annual Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger this Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19. Six states were represented by Modifieds entered at last year’s Kegger and an even bigger field is expected for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event, which pays a minimum of $200 to start. SportMods race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start while first place in the Stock Car feature pays $800, with $80 to start. Total purse for the event is more than $29,000. ‘Old-school IMCA guy’ named Michigan state tech inspector

ORLEANS, Mich. – A self-described “old-school IMCA guy” is IMCA’s new state tech inspector for Michigan. Terry Williams will alternate Fridays working with tech inspection crews at Tri-City Motor Speedway and newly re-sanctioned I-96 Speedway. He’ll be on the job Saturdays at Crystal Motor Speedway, where he’s teched since 2004. “This is my 25th year associated with IMCA and I’ve loved every minute of it,” said Williams, who raced at both I-96 and Crystal during his own career. “I raced an IMCA Modified for seven years until 1998 and began working the next year at I-96.” “(Promoter) Ron Flinn at Crystal asked me to fill in and finish out the season for him in 2004 and I’ve been there ever since,” he continued. “Ron and I hit it off and I stayed. BEATRICE, Neb. (March 12) – The guy who had the best seat in the house pointed out that the Saturday night Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event at Beatrice Speedway’s record-setting Spring Nationals had to be fun for the fans, too. A record 347 cars, from 16 states and Canada, competed at the 23rd annual special and Jay Noteboom got the best of fellow hard chargers Dylan Smith and Terry Phillips in a three-wide Modified battle on Saturday that went to the wire following a late caution. Noteboom, who’d started 15th, was less than a car length ahead of the 13th starting Smith at the finish. Friday winner Phillips started 23rd and ended in third. Record-smashing car count for opening night at Spring Nationals

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 11) – Record-breaking might not be descriptive enough for opening night of the 23rd annual Spring Nationals at Beatrice Speedway. The traditional season-opening special saw 313 cars in four IMCA divisions in action Friday, 39 more than last year. The new mark is guaranteed to go even higher with the addition of Mach-1 Sport Compacts to the Saturday program. By division, opening night at Beatrice featured 118 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, 85 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, 57 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and 53 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Friday feature winners were Terry Phillips in the Modifieds, Kyle Vanover in the Stock Cars, Greg Metz in the Northern SportMods and Cody Nielsen in the Hobby Stocks.
