IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods have a dozen dates at Idaho’s Atomic Motor Raceway

ATOMIC CITY, Idaho – A dozen dates for two IMCA divisions are on the schedule this season at Atomic Motor Raceway. The 1/3-mile clay oval at Atomic City hosts Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, with the first Friday-Saturday doubleheader of 2016 set for June 17 and 18. Both sanctioned divisions most recently ran at Atomic in 2014. The track was idle last year before being purchased by Blake Lyle. Atomicwraps.com IMCA Empire State Series returning to Five Mile Point for Sunday show

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. – Drivers following the Atomicwraps.com Empire State Series return to Five Mile Point Speedway this weekend for night number two of the tour for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Matt Cole was the winner when the 15th annual tour opened on April 16 at Kirkwood and brings the point lead back to town for the Sunday, May 1 show. The feature pays $500 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. There is a $15 entry fee and pit passes are $35. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3 p.m. Hot laps are at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 5 p.m. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors ages 65 and over, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for 12 and under. Seymour Raceway Park adjusts schedule

SEYMOUR, Wis. – Prior to their April 26 meeting, Seymour Raceway Park officials met to discuss the test and tune session scheduled for this Sunday, May 1. With the recent rain and now cold temperatures, quality track prep time is in short supply so the decision was made to cancel this Sunday’s test and tune at Seymour. Work will continue to get the new clay surface in shape for the scheduled test and tune set for Sunday, May 8. Chamber of Commerce Night is Saturday at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – After last week’s disappointing rainout, Cottage Grove Speedway gets back to racing this Saturday, April 30 with Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Night. All current Chamber members get into the races for $5. Classes in action include the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, Street Stocks and Quality RV Repair Hornets. Sanctioned Modifieds have competed at the ¼-mile clay oval twice in 2016. Collen Winebarger was victorious in the season opener and the most recent driver to enter the winner’s circle was Craig Hanson after an exciting late race pass. The IMCA SportMods have only been on hand once and that was when Jorddon Braaten took care of business and pulled off a clean sweep. Three first-time winners at Hancock County

Cody Nielsen and Derek Green won for the second time in four weeks at Hancock County Speedway while Austin Wolf, Colby Fett and Brad Cagle found the winner’s circle for the first time in 2016 at Britt. Colton Osborn, Josh Leonard, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Richard Crow all earned trips to the winner’s circle. Putting on a dominating performance, Olmstead grabbed the lead on the fourth circuit and never looked back to capture his second straight IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory at North Platte. Starting in the fourth row left Osborn some work to do to get to the front of the field in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. TOPEKA, Kan. (April 24) – The era of IMCA Racing got underway Sunday night as Heartland Park Topeka played host to opening night and a total of 82 cars checked in to battle it out in four divisions. One of the most exciting races of the night happened in the Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Car division. Bryan Rigsby, who has multiple feature wins at HPT, jumped out to the early lead but would saw his car fade as a problem developed. This problem for Rigsby would be a big gain for Matt Haid. Haid had been keeping pace with Rigsby and was ready to pounce on the moment. Haid took the lead and never looked back. Martens holds off Wood for Sprint Series of Oklahoma victory at Brill

(April 23) – Jake Martens took the lead at the start and then held off a hard-charging Joe Wood Jr. to capture his first Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car victory of the season at Brill Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Martens started on the pole for the 20-lap feature and quickly jumped out front as Andy Shouse and Sterling Hoff battled for second. Martens opened a half-stretch advantage before reaching slower cars on lap seven. The fifth starting Wood had worked his way past Shouse for third on lap five and on lap eight passed Hoff. (April 23) – The Harris boys are trying some new wing mounts on their cars and they seem to be working as Jerald Harris went to the front and stayed there in Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature at Eastside Speedway. Harris became the third different winner in as many IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car events this season when the tour made its first of four visits to Waynesboro. Tony Harris and Bill Rice paced the field at the start with Tony Harris out front on the low line with Rice taking his high line. Dubuque Late Model opener goes to Merfeld

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (April 24) – The 2016 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season got underway Sunday night at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway. The racing action was very good and an added bonus, the final checkered flag of the night waved at approximately 8:30 p.m., allowing fans plenty of time to get home for a good night’s rest before starting the work week. The Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature ran 25 very fast, caution-free laps with Dubuque racer Luke Merfeld taking his new Trackstar chassis to a very impressive win. Merfeld ran away from the field in scoring the win ahead of Jason Rauen and Luke Goedert. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modifieds also ran a caution-free race with Matt Gansen taking the checkers.
