Two voting sessions planned to elect 28 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational starters

BOONE, Iowa – Twenty-eight of the 30 starters for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational will be elected in a pair of polling sessions this summer. Three drivers from each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds will be elected during polling from July 24-27; 13 more will be elected from an at-large pool of the next 25 top vote recipients between July 31 and Aug. 3. All voting will be conducted through the IMCA Facebook page. One hundred and fifteen drivers are currently vote eligible for the 14th annual Invitational, to be held Sept. 8 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. URSS Rebels join Sprint Series of Nebraska for Battle at Belleville

Williamson makes sun set on Shootout foes

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (June 28) – A three-time champion of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout got his first win of the 2017 tour Wednesday at Sunset Speedway Park. Jesse Williamson caught Collen Winebarger on the 19th lap, making up distance after Winebarger had gotten into heavy lapped traffic, then led to the $1,000 checkers. Williamson, already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidate, went on to the win ahead of Winebarger, Ethan Dotson, Aaron Elwess and Bricen James. The main event went non-stop and all 20 cars that started the race were still running when the checkers flew. Winebarger had started from the pole and remained in charge up front before catching up with the back of the field. Williamson maneuvered through traffic to pressure then pass Winebarger. IMCA Modified winner’s check could top $5,000 at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa – The IMCA Modified winner at Benton County Speedway’s 23rd annual Hogan Memorial could take home a check for more than $5,000. The Sunday, July 2 main event pays a minimum of $2,333 to win. Fifty dollars will be paid to the leader of each of the feature’s 50 laps with a bonus of $250 plus a new Hoosier G-60 tire going to the leader when the race is stopped at halfway. A 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifier, the Hogan pays $983 for second, $808 for third, $683 for fourth and $558 for fifth. Minimum start money is $283. OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Class Too Tough To Tame takes top billing at the 22nd annual Budweiser Stock Car Shootout set for Monday and Tuesday, July 3 and 4 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $2,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third; a minimum of $300 will be paid to start the Tuesday night main event. $1,000 IMCA Empire State Series feature during Fireworks Night at Outlaw Speedway

DUNDEE, N.Y. (June 27) – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win when the Empire State Series travels to Dundee this Friday to join the Fireworks Night event at Outlaw Speedway. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier pays a minimum of $100 to start and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and track points will be awarded at the June 30 show. There is no entry fee and the feature will be 30 laps. Opening night for newly-sanctioned Bronco Motor Speedway is Friday

CLEVELAND, Texas – IMCA Modifieds will have another Friday night home in Texas beginning this weekend at Bronco Motor Speedway. Pit gates open early for out-of-town drivers traveling to the June 30 show at Cleveland. The grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. Bronco is part of IMCA’s Razor Chassis South Central Region. Season championship night is Sept. 22. “There are a lot of IMCA Modified drivers in this area,” said speedway owner Jerry Brown. “They have been asking about sanctioning since I bought the track.” Promoter is Mike Cannon, whose family built the track 20 years ago. “We want to give Modified drivers in the area another Friday night option,” Cannon said. “I can remember when area tracks had full fields of Modifieds. PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 24) – Darren Miller wired the field in the 18-lap Pennsylvania Sprint Series main event for the first win of his career Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. Jeff Miller raced into second early from the sixth starting spot and kept the leader honest the entire distance of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car headliner. Campos collects Cottage Grove checkers for first Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout victory

(June 26) – John Campos earned $1,000 plus a dose of redemption along with the checkers when the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout returned to Cottage Grove Speedway Monday night. Campos led the last 16 of 35 laps, running side-by-side with Mark Wauge much of that distance before taking the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “We were persistent on the bottom,” said Campos, who had started seventh. “He (Wauge) was right there. We had that late-race caution on lap 29 and checked out a bit from there.” The former super late model driver has found a more economical division in the IMCA Modifieds. Campos has followed the Shootout each of his three seasons in the sanctioned divisions and had posted second- and fourth-place finishes since being disqualified in post-race tech on opening night. Dodge City title chases hit the midway point this Saturday

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – The state-of-the-art Dodge City Raceway Park will reach the midway point of the 2017 racing season with a full card of championship chase action this Saturday night, July 1. Saturday’s action that fires off at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Thus far, huge fields of cars have been the norm on nights in which all five featured championship chase divisions have been in action with an average of more than 100 cars per night. Tickets for Saturday’s championship chase action are $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The 2017 season at Dodge City Raceway Park consists of 14 total nights of scheduled racing action, culminating with the Boot Hill Showdown on Oct. 27-28.
