Deery Bros Late Model Summer Series

Full house greets Deery Series at CJ Speedway as Holladay motors to IMCA Late Model tour win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 18) – A very full house was on hand to welcome the Deery Brothers Summer Series back to CJ Speedway Wednesday night. Chad Holladay led all 40 laps of the main event for touring IMCA Late Models, outrunning Denny Eckrich and Darrel DeFrance for his career second Deery win and $2,000. Ryan Dolan and Nick Marolf rounded out the top five in the first series event held at Columbus Junction since 1996. “There were a couple cautions that worked in my favor and took out lapped traffic at halfway and again with five to go,” said Holladay. “You always want clean air ahead of you and we had a very good car tonight.” Holladay’s night began inauspiciously, as he drew the last starting spot in his heat. He won that race, however, and started outside DeFrance on the front row in the main event. Holladay used lower lines all the way around the oval and didn’t have any problems in traffic. “(Promoter) Larry Richardson is like a driver. Every week he [Read More]

Madrid storms past Summer Shootout foes

By Jeff McSpadden CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (July 14) – With monsoons threatening the surrounding areas all evening, and a light sprinkle during intermission, Zachary Madrid proved to be too much for the weather and his competition to stop in the headlining IMCA Modified division during Saturday’s Summer Shootout at Central Arizona Speedway. Madrid bolted to the low side of the high banks entering turn one to start the IMCA Modified feature and went from fifth to second in the first two corners behind pole sitter Dan Radcliffe. Madrid then stayed low coming off the fourth corner to complete lap one and swept by Radcliffe for the lead entering turn one. Chaz Baca Jr. was also on the move from the ninth spot, jetting by Radcliffe to take the runner-up position by the end of the second lap. Jeremy Thornton entered the fray following an early restart, taking third away from Radcliffe and stalking the duo of Baca and Madrid.  Thornton would high side hustle his way past Baca and Madrid in one corner on lap seven, but Madrid got his elbows up and [Read More]

Current finds victory lane at Maquoketa

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (July 14) – The crowd probably could feel Tim Current’s sigh of relief as he exited turn four. Current crossed by the checkered flag first and won the 15-lap Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Car feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway. “This was a long time coming,” Current said and then laughed. “I had to use a GPS to find victory lane.” Current had come close several times in three different racing classes, including leading two features in the same night earlier in the season. Both came to an end early with mechanical issues. This night he would not be denied. “Winning here is great. The track was really racy. I was able to run low and glad (car owner) Scott Fjelstul lets me drive this thing,” he said. Terry Neal charged to the Andover Meat IMCA Late Model victory, his first of the season. Bryce Garnhart swept the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified show, winning his heat and the 20-lap feature. Jerry Miles is another driver who flirted with victory earlier in the season. [Read More]

Martens, Bubak score at Wheatshocker Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (July 13-14) – Jake Martens scored his second big United Rebel Sprint Series victory of the year as he charged from the fifth starting spot to claim the $2,000 Wheatshocker Nationals checkers Sunday at RPM Speedway. Front row starter Brian Herbert had begun to pull away until Martens reeled him in and took over the front spot on lap 10. Martens stretched his lead to a full straightaway as Jake Bubak took over second place on lap 17. The race was slowed by the only caution of the night on lap 26 but Martens was untouchable, winning ahead of Bubak and Darren Berry. Bubak’s victory in the Saturday’s preliminary IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature and his second place finish Sunday earned him the Pit Boss Pellet grille from Lance Pittman of S&W Supply for being the overall high point driver for the two-day event. Ty Williams and Zach Blurton both did stints at the front of the Saturday field. Blurton and Martens went low on lap 15 and opened the door for the [Read More]
