Entry forms available for Dodge City Raceway Park Sprint Car Nationals

And with the June event rapidly approaching, entries are now being accepted for the upcoming third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service-sponsored event. The $3,000-to-win IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event that could potentially climb to as much as $4,500 with lap money included is set for June 13-15 atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas. The rapidly-evolving event includes the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars along with the United Rebel Sprint Series and Sprint Series of Oklahoma. Borrowed ride takes Leonard to I-37 winner’s circle

By JM Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (April 27) – Borrowed car ? No problem. If you put young gun Cody Leonard in anything, he’ll make it go fast. Last weekend Leonard broke a motor during hot laps at a race at Texana Raceway. Marcus Berndt stepped up and let Leonard jump in his car for the feature, which he won. On Saturday at Pleasanton, Leonard, who started ninth, took the lead from Bill Pittaway after halfway then motored on to the win. “We blew my car up last week at Texana and Marcus came through and asked me to drive his car,” explained Leonard. “I’m real grateful for that. We won last weekend in it and he asked me to drive it again this weekend. We’re two for two now.” Pittaway was the runner-up and third was Dillon Tindall.

Spring Fling night two win goes to Young

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 27) – Derik Young was the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modified winner Saturday, on night two of Cottage Grove Speedway’s season-opening Spring Fling. Ray Bloom had a great start and paced the field the first three laps before being overtaken by Young. Young had no issues once in front of the pack as the only things slowing him down were four cautions. Despite the stoppages, Young maintained the top place position to achieve his first win of the season. Curtis Towns was yet again the runner-up while B.J. Wild posted a third-place finish. In Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod action it was all about Matt Sanders. The Brookings ace held onto the coveted top spot the entire race despite five cautions and a handful of challenges. Buddy McHargue was second while grabbing third was the previous night’s winner Jorddon Braaten.

Tritt dominates Lincoln County opener

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (April 27) – The word to describe Terry Tritt’s on-track performance on opening night Saturday at Lincoln County Raceway was dominating. Tritt started on the pole in the D & S Automotive IMCA Sport Compact feature and ran away and hid from the rest of the podium finishers. Quincy Eggleston ran out of real estate once he got to second and didn’t have enough laps remaining to dent the deficit behind the leader. Darryl Cauffman was third. Jacob Slough won for the first time in his North Platte GMC Buick IMCA Northern SportMod career, outrunning Dillon Schultz. Eddie Belec led start to finish of the Maxwell Offroad Center IMCA Modified main event while Mike Nichols worked his way from inside row six at the start to first at the finish of the Knucklehead Garage IMCA Stock Car feature. Luke Wassom motored from the fourth row and led the last two circuits in winning the Herrick Auto & Marine IMCA Hobby Stock feature.

Top IMCA Modified, Stock Car rookies earn FAST awards

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Fastest first-year drivers in two IMCA divisions earn awards from FAST again in 2019. Thompson is quickest around Springfield oval

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 27) – James Thompson took the early lead and then held back Jet Racing Central Region Point leader Steven Bowers Jr., Bobby Pearish and Bad Boy Mowers IMCA Modified track point leader Jody Tillman in becoming the third different in three events Saturday at the “Quick-Quarter” of the Springfield Raceway. Thompson, who started fourth, quickly went topside to open a large lead early in what proved to be a caution-free 20-lap feature. Pearish moved to the extreme high side in giving chase as Bowers was slicing his way to the front while battling with Tillman. Thompson used the tight races behind him to pull away but Pearish started to reel in the race leader just past halfway while Bowers was using every inch and every lane of the smooth, slick surface in gaining ground. On lap 15, Bowers caught Pearish and the duo gained on Thompson quickly. On lap 18, Bowers made a huge run on Pearish and made the slide job stick to grab second while Tillman was coming on strong. Night of firsts precedes 100th event for IMCA Wild West Modified Tour

AZTEC, N.M. – After a night of firsts, IMCA’s Wild West Modified Tour celebrates a milestone 100th event on night two of its season-opening doubleheader at Aztec Speedway. First-ever tour events for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods along with the first tour event for Modifieds since 2014 will be held Friday, May 3. The same three divisions are on the Saturday, May 4 card. That evening’s Modified feature will be the 100th in the history of the tour, which debuted in 2007 for its initial eight-year run. Car counts will determine nightly purses, with Modifieds racing for a minimum of $1,000 to win and as much as $2,500 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers. Sweigart blasts past PASS foes at Port Royal Speedway

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 27) – In a performance worthy of his nickname, “Nitro” Nick Sweigart blasted the Pennsylvania Sprint Series field to earn his first victory since 2017 in the 20-lap feature Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. Flying past competitors on the outside from his 10th starting position, Sweigart took the lead from Jaremi Hanson on lap seven and never looked back, scoring the win by a 1.448-second margin over Jonathan Jones, who passed Hanson in the fourth turn of the final lap. Zach Newlin finished fourth, with Ryan Lynn taking fifth. Sweigart raced to seven top five finishes last year, including two runner-ups, but he hadn’t visited victory lane since August of 2017 at BAPS Motor Speedway. Deery Series at Independence rescheduled to June 19

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Independence Motor Speedway has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 19. As has been the case numerous times this spring, rain and generally cold temperatures get the blame for the postponement of the IMCA Late Model tour program. Other divisions on the June 19 card are to be announced. Sunday’s Deery at Dubuque was another inclement weather casualty. There is no reschedule date for that event.

Keeton collects Shenandoah Virginia Sprint Series victory

(April 27) – The Norfolk Southern Railroad across the street from Shenandoah Speedway rumbles and roars when it rolls by, but on Saturday night Mike Keeton made his own noise and looked to be on rails as he sped to the Virginia Sprint Series feature win. The feature-only IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event rolled to green with Josh Perreault and Chris Ware on the front with the two staying side by side until lap two the Ware edging out front. Bill Rice came up to challenge Ware but his night ended early with a flat right front tire in the infield. On the restart, Ware jumped out but Keeton took over the top spot and sped away. Jerald Harris and Glenn Worrell got by Ware but chasing down Keeton was not going happen without a caution as he powered to the win.
