Late-race opportunity leads Zuhlsdorf to winner’s circle

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 15) – Opportunity knocked on the door late in the race Saturday night and Kris Zuhlsdorf answered. Mike Kennedy led the first 12 laps of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature at Arlington Raceway but saw his advantage up front erased by a caution.  Zuhlsdorf capitalized, taking the lead following the ensuing restart and driving to the win. Dan Menk led from start to finish of the 20-lap feature for IMCA Modifieds and Michael Stien was the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car winner. Tenth starting Dan Mackenthun topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event.  National point leader Cory Probst paced the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks while Alan Lahr led the way to the Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers.

Sprint Series of Nebraska invades U.S. 36

OSBORN, Mo. – The Sprint Series of Nebraska is set to challenge the high banks of U.S. 36 Raceway on Bolin Auto and Truck Parts Night at the Races this Friday, August 21.  Along with IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are in action.  At the end of the night, the Stock Cars will compete in the Shocker Chassis Six Pack Shootout. The bracket-style special event will see Mich Ross, J.J. Baumli, Anthony Witham, Jon Boller Jr.,  Brad Derry, Carson Masoner and Blake Peeler race for the win. The pit gates open at 4 p.m. The grandstands open at 6 p.m. with hot laps at 7:30 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for seniors 62 and over and military with ID and children 12 and younger are free. Pit passes are $35.

Willamette openers go to Peery, Coffman

LEBANON, Ore. (Aug. 15) – Saturday went down in history as the first race of the 2020 season at the Willamette Speedway with drivers from all over Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada competing. In the IMCA Modified main event, Justin Cady led early before a dizzying six lead changes. Bricen James, Travis Peery and Grey Ferrando all took turns at the front. Peery navigated his way back into the lead on lap 33 and held on for the rest of the distance. James was second while Washington traveler Tyson Blood placed third.  Domination was the keyword in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Doug Coffman set a wicked pace and was practically in his own area code over the rest of the pack.  It was Coffman’s second win of 2020.  Kevin Williamson was the runner-up.

DCRP Sprint Car Nationals, SportMod Mayhem to air live at IMCA.TV

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Dodge City Raceway Park is the place to be for this weekend’s fourth annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals along with the seventh annual IMCA SportMod Mayhem North vs. South Duel atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas.  However, not all is lost for those that unable to take in all the excitement in person, as all three nights of action will be aired live via Pay-Per-View at www.imca.tv. Each night of action will be available for just $20 or get all three nights of competition for just $50.  The monumental racing weekend in Dodge City begins on Thursday and ultimately culminates with Saturday’s $3,000-to-win DCRP Sprint Car finale and the $1,500-to-win SportMod Mayhem North vs. South Duel championship event. Becerra scores seventh win of season at Pepsi Lee County

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 14) – Austen Becerra raced to Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod win number seven of the season at Pepsi Lee County Speedway Friday night. The evening’s finale saw Brandon Dale grab the early lead over Adam Birck and Becerra. The top three battled over the next three laps before Becerra emerged with the lead.  Just as Becerra started to enter traffic on lap eight, the second caution of the race appeared. On the restart, Becerra jumped back out front with Dale, Birck, Brayton Carter, Sean Wyett, Dylan Van Wyk and Jim Gillenwater battling two and three-wide for positions behind him. Just when it looked like Becerra would pull away, the final caution slowed him on lap 15 as Carter and Van Wyk got together.  Once again, Becerra grabbed the lead on the restart, with Birck and Dale close behind. Davenport Speedway celebrates Aug. 21 Weedon Memorial, centennial

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Davenport Speedway combines two celebrations on a single night of racing, marking the 100th year since the track opened with the 15th annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,500 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth their draw/redraw show. IMCA Sunoco Late Models and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are also on the Friday, Aug. 21 card.  There is no entry fee and pit passes are $30.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded.  Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-12 and free for four and under.

Contingency signup continues through IMCA website

VINTON, Iowa – Drivers in five divisions can continue making themselves eligible for post-season product, certificate and/or cash awards. Contingency forms for IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kus­toms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod competitors are available on the IMCA website and accessible utilizing the forms pulldown at the top of the home page. “We want to make sure as many drivers as possible take advantage of the extended signup oppor­tunity,” said IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. Forms can be filled out and returned electronically or printed and mailed to the IMCA home office along with a car photos providing proof of decal placement.

Christians captures 100th IMCA Stock Car win

(Aug. 14) – Horicon’s Jeremy Christians celebrated another milestone in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars with his 100th win Friday night at Outagamie Speedway powered by EWSC. Tyler Wendt paced the opening circuits of the Stock Car feature. Wendt locked in up top as Chris­tians quickly worked his way to the runner-up position using the low groove and slipped by for the lead on lap four. Christians put his Victory Chassis on the cushion and pulled away from the field. A caution with three to go set up a dash to the checkers but no one had anything for Christians as he went uncon­tested en route to his 100th IMCA feature win. Wendt had his best run of the season to place second, Andy Kleczka rallied late to place to take third. “Fast” Eddie Muenster picked up his first IMCA Modified feature of the season. Wilinski, Forstner, Schmidt all repeat at Shawano

(Aug. 15) – It almost felt like déjà vu all over again Saturday as Konnor Wilkinski, Chucky Forstner and Jayden Schmidt returned to victory lane for the second week in a row at Shawano Speedway.   Lap one of the IMCA Modified feature saw Kevin Feck go from third to first to lead the field. As Feck led, Wilinski began to work through traffic after starting 10th. A caution after lap six bunched the field up and Wilinski capitalized, going from his third place restart position to the inside of Feck to snag the lead.   Wilinski did not look back as he drove to his second win of the year.  Feck finished in second and Marcus Yarie raced all the way from 18th to third.  Jeremie Hedrick would lead the early stages of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature while being pres­sured by Gary Kasperek and Forstner.  The trio went three-wide for the lead on lap four.  Hedrick still held the lead until lap six when Forstner utilized the inside groove [Read More]

Seidler, Sandberg celebrate on Anniversary Night at Mandan

MANDAN, N.D. (Aug. 14) – Dacotah Speedway celebrated its 30th anniversary and Marlyn Seid­ler and Ken Sandberg celebrated IMCA feature wins Friday night.  Crist Pittenger passed pole sitter Tony Marsh for the lead in the IMCA Modified feature, then was pressured by Scott Gartner and Seidler. Gartner briefly took the lead on lap seven but that was short-lived as Seidler slipped by to take the lead on lap 11.  Gartner then started to fade through the field, losing positions to Spencer Wilson, Shawn Strand and Travis Olheiser. Strand passed Wilson who then fell into the clutches of Olheiser. Making a late-race pass, Rusty Kollman finished fifth behind Wilson. Ohleiser finished third while Strand finished a distant second. Seidler was in another zip code as he cruised to victory lane to his 97th career IMCA Modified feature victory.  JayDe Satcho and Levi Ensz battled for the initial lead in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature.
