Dirt Works banner flies over Eastern Region for Modifieds

ORONOGO, Mo. – Welcomed back to the IMCA partnership ranks last season, Dirt Works Race Cars returns in 2014 as title sponsor of the Eastern Region for Modifieds. The Oronogo, Mo., chassis builder provides a portion of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in final standings for the Eastern Region, which includes tracks in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. Formerly located in Walker, Mo., Dirt Works is a sister company to Hoffman Race Cars and is also owned by veteran driver Jerry Hoffman. Iturriaga Memorial is May 30, 31 at Battle Mountain

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – A pair of $1,000 to win features for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are on the program for Battle Mountain Raceway’s inaugural Iturriaga NAPA Memorial Race Friday and Saturday, May 30-31. Both races are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events and the first races in the first annual I-80 Challenge Series. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State, special series and local track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and optional hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m. both days. All drivers must check in at the pit window by 7 p.m.; racing follows the 7:15 p.m. drivers’ meeting. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for kids five and under when accompanying a paying adult or senior. Final Lone Star Series checkers fly at Texas Nationals

WACO, Texas – IMCA Lone Star Series shows on Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway do double duty as the Texas Nationals. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks all see holiday weekend action at Waco. Both Modified features will pay $1,000 to win and are qualifiers for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. SportMod features pay $750 to win, Stock Car features pay $600 and Hobby Stock features $400. Along with the biggest share of the respective purses, Modified and Stock Car series champions earn bonus points applicable toward national and regional point standings. North Star Series races to Redwood Speedway this Sunday

REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. (May 28) – Redwood Speedway rolls out the red carpet for round three of the Redline Racing Parts North Star Series, with five IMCA divisions on the track this Sunday, June 1. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts all vie on the half-mile dirt oval at Redwood Falls. Werkmeister is Stock Car series winner at WaKeeney

By Mike Hughes WaKEENEY, Kan. (May 26) – Casey Werkmeister made his move in lapped traffic and ended up in WaKeeney Speedway’s victory lane on Memorial Day. Werkmeister topped the Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grill Great Plains Series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, earning $750 for his efforts. Series point leader Mike Nichols had shot out to the early lead in the 25-lap event, chased by Werkmeister, Angel Munoz, Jason Rogers and Jeff Tubbs. The top five remained the same at the halfway mark, then the lead duo got caught up in heavy lapped traffic before Werkmeister got by Nichols for the lead. The top two continued to battle their way through traffic but Werkmeister held on for the win and the $750 paycheck. Nichols finished in the runner-up spot in the caution-free race, with Rogers, Munoz and B.J. Wagoner rounding out the top five. Ward tops XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour opener at I-35

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 26) – A driver from Arizona who won a state championship in Nebraska found success in Iowa Monday night. Tim Ward led most of the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event at I-35 Speedway. He’d gotten the front spot back from J.J. Wise before rain forced the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature to be called after 16 of the scheduled 25 laps. “The car was really good. We were really fast,” said Ward, racing out of Laurens and teammate of 2010 series champion Mike Jergens this season. “I got a good starting spot but I think I could have started further back and still had a chance to get to the front.” Two cautions interrupted the series-opening night contest. IMCA Modified Mayhem at Billings boasts $2,500 top check

BILLINGS, Mont. – The inaugural Modified Mayhem at Billings Motorsports Park boasts a $2,500 top prize. The Saturday, May 31 special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds pays a minimum of $100 to start, is sponsored by Sorenson Racing of Billings and is a qualifying event for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western or Belleville Motorsports North Central regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Non-qualifiers taking at least one green flag during the evening get $50 tow money. There is no entry fee; pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and over, juniors ages 12-17 and military personnel with ID, $3 for kids ages 7-11 and free for six and under. Fleming scores Friesen Chevrolet Empire State win at Skyline

CORTLAND, N.Y. (May 25) – Sunday’s Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series feature saw Chris Fleming complete a holiday weekend sweep of at Skyline Raceway. Already the winner of Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Cortland, Fleming held off Gary Roberts and hard-charging Bumps Scutt for the tour victory, his career third. Gary Smith and James Cornell completed the top five. The early stages of the feature saw Fleming work his way forward from deep in the field. A series of cautions kept the field bunched up and by the time the 10th lap went up on the board, Fleming had made his way to the lead. Most of the race was run off a few laps at a time as a series of minor spins and mishaps led to numerous cautions. The final yellow came with four laps remaining and set up a four-lap dash to the finish between Fleming and Roberts. Brown bests Modifieds at Dodge City

(May 24) – Scott Brown became the fifth different winner in as many IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval this season by earning a hard-fought victory in Saturday night’s 20-lap main event. While Brown led all the way from his pole starting position, he had his hands full much of the distance and survived a pair of late cautions to post the triumph by a narrow margin ahead of Tracy Link and Austin Allen. “The cautions didn’t worry me much,” he commented. “My car goes good on a tacky track like this so I knew we were okay.” Front row outside starter Tracy Link actually jumped into the lead on the initial start only to have it negated for a turn four incident.
