Ware sprints to Fast Friday checkers at Dixieland

(July 29) – After having to miss several spring races due to changing jobs, Chris Ware came back strong and led start to finish in winning the second Virginia Sprint Series Fast Friday event of the year at Dixieland Speedway. Bill Rice and Ware paced the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware going to the top and getting out first. Ware was on rails as Rice tried lap after lap to find an opening. Troy Severin got to third at halfway and joined the party. Ware wasn’t making any mistakes and Severin was all over Rice in the race for second as the white flag waved. Schneider celebrates birthday, Oshkosh checkers

OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 29) – Tim Schneider celebrated his birthday and the Nolte’s Auto Repair and Towing IMCA Sport Mod feature win at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Jason Ebert took control of the main event while Schneider worked from mid-pack through tight traffic into the runner-up spot. Tim Sheppard, Kevin Bethke and Scott Besaw were right behind. A lap eight caution slowed the field and Schneider remained right behind after the restart with Bethke, Adam Peschek, Besaw and Brock Saunders in line. Schneider dipped inside at the line on lap 15 and eased into the lead in turn one. A final restart on lap 16 allowed Schneider to pull away from the field as a dogfight for second lasted to the finish. Ryan Besaw moved up over the final laps to take second. Tipton twinbill next for Deery Series, IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour

TIPTON, Iowa – IMCA’s Deery Brothers Summer Series and Hawkeye Dirt Tour travel to Cedar County Raceway for what’s become a traditional dirt track twinbill Tuesday night. The Aug. 2 doubleheader takes both IMCA Late Models and Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds to Tipton for a fifth consecutive year. Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Modifieds chase a $1,000 top check and a minimum of $150 to start their 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $17 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students and six and under free. Pit passes are $30. Ron Barker won the first HDT feature held at Tipton, in 2011. Dodge City holds Driver Appreciation Night

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 29) – Cole Traugott, Robert Elliott, Michael Pepper and Matt O’Hair were Driver Appreciation Night feature winners at Dodge City Raceway Park. Traugott reeled off his fourth Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win in his last four starts atop the 3/8-mile clay oval. He played the role of spoiler by taking the lead away from Jack Kirchoff just three laps shy of the checkered flag in the 20-lapper. The IMCA SportMods came down to the final laps as well with Elliott battling past Kale Roach just two laps from the end of the 20-lapper for his first DCRP win. Fairmont Raceway to host Cellan Motorsports Shootout

FAIRMONT, Minn. – Fairmont Raceway’s Friday, Aug. 5 Cellan Motorsports Summer Shootout presented by IMCA.TV boasts a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. A minimum of $1,000 will be paid to win and $175 to start the Modified main event. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $750 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $525 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $400 to win. Among the race sponsors contributing to the purse are the Southern Minnesota Area Corn Growers and Wilmont Oil. Payouts in all divisions will be increased as additional contributions are received. There are no entry fees for the draw/redraw show. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State but no local track points will be given. Rust, Wroten grab first Marshalltown wins

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 29) – Marshalltown Speedway found new faces in Victory Lane on Friday night in the Modified and Hobby Stock divisions, while there were repeat winners in the Stock Cars and Northern SportMods. Jake Strayer took command from Gatlin Leytham on lap six of 20 circuits in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main but soon had Joel Rust to contend with. Rust, who started eighth, made the move around the topside of Strayer, taking the lead at lap eight. Rust then held that top spot to the checkers flying, securing the win. Strayer finished second, third went to eleventh starting Jacob Murray, Jimmy Gustin started 14th and finished fourth and Jenae Gustin was fifth. Rust won the Hawkeye Dirt Tour race on June 7 but this was his first regular season win at Marshalltown in 2016. Derry delivers Stock Car feature win

(July 29) – A new face would emerge in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division on Friday as Brad Derry raced his way to the front of the Atchison County Raceway field for the feature win. Dominic Thyfault was second while Jim Powell Jr. stayed in the hunt for the win all night, ending with a third place finish. The Stocks were deemed best of show by track officials with position no. 9 being drawn and Marvin Griffith Jr. picking up the extra cash. Steven Bowers Jr. won both his heat race and the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Bowers used a late-race caution to get past Nicholas Carpenter and cruise into victory lane, leaving Carpenter to finish second. Rodney Schweizer raced through the pack to finish third.

KRA Speedway fair special features three IMCA divisions

WILLMAR, Minn. – KRA Speedway brings in three IMCA sanctioned divisions to headline the Kandiyohi County Fair special on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds race for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $375 to win and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $300 to win that evening in Willmar. Rules in place for Princeton and Brainerd will be in effect. “We wanted to bring in something different this year,” said Promoter Jason McCoy, who anticipates that a solid number of regulars at IMCA tracks in the area will enter the midweek show. “I think we’re going to knock the socks off this thing.” IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be given in all three divisions. First round of All-Star voting is complete

BOONE, Iowa – Defending race winner Jimmy Gustin, 2014 winner Kyle Strickler and a trio of first-time All-Stars are among the 10 Modified drivers already guaranteed starting spots on the Fast Shafts Invitational grid during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Gustin and brother Richie had the top two vote totals in first-round balloting from the BMS North Central Region – Richie led all candidates with 12,945 votes – while Strickler and Scott Sessions, the first Floridian elected to the All-Star event in its 13-year history, led the way in the Dirt Works Eastern Region. Hunter Marriott and Jeff Taylor were elected out of the Jet Racing Central Region, first-timer Kevin Green and William Gould from the Razor Chassis South Central Region.
