FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 2) – Along with a unique place in Deery Brothers Summer Series history, Chris Simpson enjoyed a $10,000 run to the checkers at Farley Speedway’s 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic Saturday night. Simpson regained the lead with 28 circuits to go in the 100-lap main event, then held off Joel Callahan and Justin Kay following a late restart to win his IMCA Late Model tour career-first feature. He also became the 100th different driver to win a feature over the course of the series’ 477-event history. “It was kind of a good night for us,” said Simpson, who put a car he built and borrowed from Jason Rauen in victory lane. “This is a series that has been around for a long time. The winner of the last two regular season features at Eagle, Martin topped the Friday qualifying feature, earning $700 and the pole position in Sunday’s $2,500 to win main event. “I think our chances Sunday are as good as any. You’ve got to lose it a few times in order to win it, I guess, so I think we’re as good as we can be right now,” said Martin, who ran third in last year’s Sprint Nationals main after winning the Jake Ita Memorial feature. By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 1) – Chris Abelson reeled in a flying Josh Gilman en route to the $1,000 IMCA Modified win at Marshalltown Speedway’s Friday night Showdown at MoTown. Abelson took charge jut after halfway in the 25-lapper and pulled away. The race was halted on lap 23 after Canadian driver Kody Schlopp took a tumble off of turn four. When the race went back to green for the final two circuits, Abelson again drove away from the competition. Already on the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, he finished well ahead of second place Clint Luellen. Third went to 18th starting Joel Rust, Kelly Shryock came from 17th starting to finish fourth and Tim Ward completed the top five. By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (Aug. 31) – The 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic got underway on Thursday with qualifying in both the IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions. Both divisions qualified 12 cars for their big Saturday night Yankee championship features. A dozen more cars in each division will earn a starting spot through last-chance races early Saturday. Friday racing will start at 6:30 p.m. and features Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Saturday’s start time has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. and will kick off with last-chance races, followed by opening ceremonies and all big features, including the 100-lap, $10,000 to win Yankee Dirt Track Classic for the Deery Series, which is expected to take to the track at 9 p.m. Modified Qualifiers 1st heat – 1. EAGLE, Neb. – Teams from across the country have traveled to America’s Home Track for this weekend’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals. Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 qualifying features at Eagle Raceway pay $700 to win while Saturday’s Jake Ita Memorial pays $1,000 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. The Sunday, Sept. 3 main event pays $2,500 to win and a minimum $1,250 to start. Twenty-seven IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will start the big show on Sunday. The “B” feature purse sponsored by IMCATV is $1,000 for the first non-qualifier (10th place finisher) and $500 to start. All other non-qualifiers receive a minimum of $250 for Sunday with added non-qualifier sponsorship money. Non-qualifiers are guaranteed at least $450 for the entire weekend as long as they take a green flag each night. Adult grandstand admission is $13 on Friday, $15 on Saturday and $18 on Sunday. BOONE, Iowa – Pre-registration deadline for the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will be at noon CST on Friday, Sept. 1. “Drivers in all divisions racing at Super Nationals can call the home office (319 472-2201) to register early and save $20. Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod drivers also make themselves eligible to race in the Sept. 2 Prelude at Boone Speedway,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “I encourage all drivers who are planning to race at Super Nationals to pre-register if they have not done so already.” More than 700 early entries are now in hand for the Sept. 4-9 Super Nationals.
