Littlejohn comes up big on night two at HO’T

By J.M. Hallas WACO, Texas (July 5) – Nicholas Littlejohn finished 16 positions better on night two of the Lone Star Series Texas Nationals twinbill than he did on night one. That improvement paid $1,000 and put him on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Littlejohn won Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway after race-long leader Dean Abbey suffered mechanical problems following a late restart. Abbey looked to become the only weekend double winner but a stopped car brought the caution out on lap 18. As the green flag waved again, Abbey broke a hub on the left rear wheel stacking up the field and collecting three other cars. Cass took a look low on Littlejohn for the lead, but not able to get by. Abbey takes IMCA Modified Lone Star Series opener

Hallas WACO, Texas (July 4) – First-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Dean Abbey had the run of his life in picking up the $1,000 Lone Star Series Texas Nationals win Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. For two-thirds of the race Abbey chased veteran Keith Green until finally making the bottom work on a restart. If that wasn’t pressure enough, a late caution set up a green, white, checkered finish that put former IMCA national champion Keith White and his brother Paul, a past USAC Silver Crown champ, on his tail. Abbey was able to get a good jump on green and got some breathing room while the White brothers exchanged slide jobs on each other. Abbey went unchallenged while Paul beat Keith in the second place battle. VanderBeek repeats as big gun at Great American Stock Car Shootout

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 2-3) – His latest Great American Stock Car feature win put an even bigger check in Zack VanderBeek’s pocket. VanderBeek repeated as winner of the pre-holiday special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Southern Iowa Speedway. The Thursday victory paid $2,000, $500 more than the 2013 checkers at Osky, and made VanderBeek eligible to qualify for the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Damon Murty grabbed the lead at the start of the 19th annual event before giving way to Derrick Agee on lap two. Agee stayed in front until VanderBeek worked his way by up on lap 10. VanderBeek began to pull away and looked as if he was going to take the win going away before the only caution of the race came out on lap 20. Jimmy Gustin repeats XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour heroics at Algona (VIDEO)

ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – His IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified foes have to be happy the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour doesn’t bring Jimmy Gustin to Algona Raceway more often. Gustin ended a late Tuesday night show by regaining the lead on the final circuit for his second straight series win on the Kossuth County Fairgrounds dirt oval. The victory came during Algona’s Salute to Veterans Spectacular and paid $2,000. Post by XSAN. “I’ve only been to Algona twice and I won twice,” said the understandably happy Gustin, newly qualified for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “It was a really exciting race. It all worked out great for us.” Forty-three IMCA Modifieds were on hand for the second stop of the 2014 tour. Mike Van Genderen was just a car length off the pace in second with Eric Dailey, Kelly Shryock and Adam Larson rounding out the top five. Larson had led late before getting shuffled back. Delp, Hansen earn first EQ Wild West Tour wins

VERNAL, Utah (June 27-28) – Two veterans of the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour made long-awaited stops in victory lane when the series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds visited Diamond Mountain Speedway. Casey Delp won his first tour feature on Friday at Vernal. Chase Hansen accomplished the same feat on Saturday, also earning $1,000 and joining Delp as a new candidate on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Point leader Justen Yeager came into the series weekend with a three-race winning streak and ran second both nights. Michael Hale, Jake Donnelly and Eddie Belec completed Friday’s top five. Belec, Jeff Hunter and Bert Beech ended third, fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday. Delp counted three runner-up showings in 36 career Wild West Tour starts coming into the weekend. Hogge aces Nor-Cal feature at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 28) – Bobby Hogge IV fought his way to the top, picking off the highly competitive field of drivers one by one in winning Saturday’s Nor-Cal Challenge Series main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Antioch Speedway. “I had some problems in the middle of the race,” Hogge said in victory lane. “I almost spun out once.” Coming from 12th starting position in the 16-car field, Hogge watched as a battle waged for the lead between Kellen Chadwick and Ryan McDaniel. Williamson wins fourth Cottage Grove Modified Nationals crown

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 28) – Jesse Williamson added a career fourth Cottage Grove IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Nationals trophy to his collection Saturday night. The victory paid $1,520 and came at the end of a 50-lap main event. Jeremy Shank, Nick Trenchard, Kyle Casson and Braedon Hand rounded out the top five in the Pacific Northwest racing jewel. Williamson was in the lead from the start and set a rapid pace but had to negotiate lapped traffic around the lap 17 mark. A lap 21 caution bunched up the field and a mandatory caution stopped the race at halfway. The feature went green the rest of the way with Williamson in front with mounting pressure from contenders behind him as the laps continued to click away. In the final 10 circuits Shank threw his name in the mix. Shank, who started 11th, operated on the bottom the track and closed the gap. Humphries glad to be at Dixieland

(June 27) – Tom Humphries took the win at the first of two Virginia Sprint Series visits to Dixieland Speedway Friday night, holding off Jerald Harris and Glenn Worrell. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour victory was Humphries second straight and third in seven series events so far this season. Charlie Ware and Chris Ware paced the field as the green waved with Charlie Ware taking off bringing Worrell along. The two were glued together until Worrell got by on lap four and Charlie was left to deal with the closing pack. Worrell was leading when a quick yellow waved at halfway with Humphries and Harris right behind. Worrell took off and stayed fast but Humphries was on the attack, chopping high and low lap after lap until he and Harris both got by with six laps to go. Humphries stayed out front with Harris right behind. Worrell, Troy Severin and Anthony Linkenhoker completed the top five. LaCrosse scores $2,500 IMCA Modified win at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis, (June 27) – Benji LaCrosse has won some big races and championships in his racing career. He added to those already illustrious accomplishments when he grabbed the $2,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. LaCrosse started 20th in the field, drove through traffic and survived a late race scare for the win. Scott Drake, Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Shawn Kilgore completed the top five. Kilgore started up front in the main event and shot ahead of the 26-car field. By lap 10, Kilgore had a lead of about four car lengths on Jeff Taylor. Taylor ran the extreme outside to track down Kilgore and take the lead on lap 12. LaCrosse, meanwhile, was charging through the field and by lap 23 found himself in third. A caution on lap 30 put Kilgore and LaCrosse on Taylor’s back bumper. Both Kilgore and LaCrosse timed the restart perfectly and went three-wide with Taylor for a near full lap. Mullen has $10,000 reasons to celebrate at Clash at the Creek

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 26) – Some guys never earn $10,000 in their career, let alone win that amount in one night. That is exactly what Mike Mullen accomplished with his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at 141 Speedway, leading all 50 laps of the Clash at the Creek. Twenty-four of the best Modified drivers in the country were pared from 69 entries, from 10 states, for the sixth annual special and Mullen started on the pole by virtue of two heat wins on Wednesday night. Mullen opened up strong with a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Darin Duffy. Jeff Taylor worked his way around Duffy by lap 20, right before the only caution of the race came out. When the race restarted, Mullen again forged ahead with Taylor in tow. Josh Long had started 13th on the field and started knocking off cars as he ran a smooth race down low.
