By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 10) – Close finishes highlighted Saturday action on Miller Lite Night at West Liberty Raceway. The headliner of the night was the Performance Concepts IMCA Modified feature which saw a stellar field of drivers take the green flag for the 20-lap main event. Veteran Davenport driver Bruce Hanford established himself early as the man to beat. Hanford led the main event for 19 and ¾-laps only to have Kurt Kile shoot into the lead as the frontrunners worked lapped traffic. Hanford chased Kile across the finish line in second ahead of ninth starting Chris Zogg. Jonathan Brauns drove a perfect race in scoring the win in the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. Brauns led every lap despite a daring slide job by Chad Holladay. Brauns was not rattled by Holladay’s charge and went on to record his first win of the 2017 season at his home track. Holladay and Andy Eckrich completed the top three. Tim Plummer scored the win in the Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA [Read More]
By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 10) — One night removed from a full moon, the Shawano Speedway almost had it all … a nasty wreck, a first-time winner, sweet redemption following a nasty wreck and drivers coming from deep in the field. Joey Taycher got soaked in victory lane after his first career IMCA Modified victory. Travis Van Straten won his fourth local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature of the season and Jason Ebert won his first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature of the season. The IMCA Modified feature got off to a scary start as more than half the field was involved in a wreck at the end of the back straight away. Lance Arneson rolled multiple times before his car came to rest on its side. All drivers were okay though numerous cars were eliminated from action. Once the race got going again, Taycher and Matt McDermid raced side-by-side for the top spot before Taycher pulled ahead. Taycher led the rest of the race for his first career win in the division. McDermid held on to finish [Read More]
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 9) – Todd Cooney had a bounty on his head in Friday’s IMCA Late Model feature at Marshalltown Speedway. At the end of the night, that $400 bounty still stood. Cooney started in row four, flew to the top of the track and quickly reeled in cars. By lap five, he was leading, and from there on never looked back. Joe Zrostlik led the first four laps and chased Cooney the rest of the way to take second. Third went to Paul Nagle, Darrel DeFrance was fourth and Greg Kastli took fifth. Shannon Anderson won for the fifth time locally in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks while Damon Murty scored his third straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Doug Smith’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory was his third of 2017 at Marshalltown and Darin Duffy repeated in the IMCA Modified main event. One hundred and ten cars were checked into the pits Friday evening.
By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 9) – Friday was a beautiful night for stock car racing at the all-new Farley Speedway. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds were the featured division with their 20-lap feature bringing the final checkered flag of the night. Justin Kay had worked on Richie Gustin’s no. 19G car in his Wheatland shop all day and decided with Gustin’s permission to take the Modified to Farley and test the changes made. The changes adapted well as Kay chased down race leader Matt Gansen and made the pass for the lead as the race passed the midway point. Kay went on to take the checkers ahead of Gansen and Austin Moyer. Jon Merfeld was the beneficiary of a blown right rear tire on Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature race leader Joel Callahan. The misfortune for Callahan came as the leaders raced to the white flag. Merfeld took the win ahead of Eric Pollard. Tyler Soppe scored the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMod feature win, his fourth in a [Read More]

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 3) – Colton Osborn worked through traffic to grab the lead just past the halfway point, then led to the finish in winning the IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Lincoln County Raceway. Casey Werkmeister started outside row three and finished first in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Kyle Clough started deep in the field and ended in second. Jamey Kennicutt held off all challengers after getting the lead on the fourth lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner Brady Weinman only led one lap but it was the lap that mattered most: He passed Robbie Kosmacek on the final circuit. Tom Baumgardner rode the cushion to the Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers.
MANDAN, N.D. (June 2) – Jeremy Keller couldn’t be caught in the Friday feature for IMCA Modifieds at Dacotah Speedway. Quentin Kinzley was the early leader, ahead of Shawn Strand and Jason Wolla. Wolla, who started eleventh, cracked into the top three by lap 10. Strand caught and passed Kinzley before a caution for debris from Wolla’s race car brought out a caution on lap 12. Wolla was sent to the tail end of the field and on the restart, Keller went low under Strand and took the lead. Keller pulled away from the field until another caution regrouped the field. He edged away on the restart as Strand and Marlyn Seidler battled for second. Seidler slipped by for second with eight laps to go, bringing Brad Hartigan with him. No one could catch Keller, however. Seidler finished second ahead of Hartigan. Strand finished fourth while Travis Olheiser made a late-race pass to finish fifth Jason Berg won the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature comfortably ahead of Chase Schlafmann.
