Cooney’s bounty remains, Duffy, Murty and Anderson go back to back

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 9) – Todd Cooney had a bounty on his head in Friday’s IMCA Late Model feature at Marshalltown Speedway. At the end of the night, that $400 bounty still stood. Cooney started in row four, flew to the top of the track and quickly reeled in cars.  By lap five, he was leading, and from there on never looked back. Joe Zrostlik led the first four laps and chased Cooney the rest of the way to take second. Third went to Paul Nagle, Darrel DeFrance was fourth and Greg Kastli took fifth. Shannon Anderson won for the fifth time locally in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks while Damon Murty scored his third straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Doug Smith’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory was his third of 2017 at Marshalltown and Da­rin Duffy repeated in the IMCA Modified main event. One hundred and ten cars were checked into the pits Friday evening.

Kay ends test drive in Farley’s victory lane

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 9) – Friday was a beautiful night for stock car racing at the all-new Farley Speedway. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds were the featured division with their 20-lap feature bringing the final checkered flag of the night. Justin Kay had worked on Richie Gustin’s no. 19G car in his Wheatland shop all day and decided with Gustin’s permission to take the Modified to Farley and test the changes made. The changes adapted well as Kay chased down race leader Matt Gansen and made the pass for the lead as the race passed the midway point. Kay went on to take the checkers ahead of Gansen and Austin Mo­yer. Jon Merfeld was the beneficiary of a blown right rear tire on Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature race leader Joel Callahan. Hamilton County Speedway hosts June 13 Mid Iowa Topless

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run without roofs at Hamilton County Speedway’s aptly named Mid Iowa Topless 50 on Tuesday, June 13. Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their 50-lap Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. North­ern SportMods go 35 laps and chase a top check of $1,000. Twenty-six Modifieds will qualify for the starting grid with the top two non-qualifiers based on track standings completing the field. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in both divisions, as will Side Biter Chassis North Central Region points for the Modifieds. Local track points will not be given. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Harris hauls to victory lane at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 3) – There was no catching Jerald Harris once he moved to the front of Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature field at Shenandoah Speedway. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win was his second this season at the paved speedway and came in front of Mike Leraas and Ryan Price. Mike Keeton took over the lead on lap three; Harris got by Bill Rice and began to close on the leader, finally finding his way to the front on lap 10. Leraas got to second after a restart. The top three were close as the laps clicked off and as the white flag waved, Leraas made a last corner charge but came up short by a car length. Feature results – 1. Jerald Harris; 2. Free grandstand admission Sunday at Dubuque Speedway

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa – This Sunday, June 11 has been declared Fan/Driver Appreciation Night at Dubuque Speedway. All fans will be admitted to the grandstands free. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program will get underway on the high banked 3/8-mile clay track with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. The night’s action will include racing in four sanctioned divisions, the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models, Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modifieds, GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMods and Bakey Seamless Gutters IMCA Stock Cars.

Traffic can’t slow Osborn at Lincoln County

(June 3) – Colton Osborn worked through traffic to grab the lead just past the halfway point, then led to the finish in winning the IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Lincoln County Raceway. Casey Werkmeister started outside row three and finished first in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Kyle Clough started deep in the field and ended in second. Jamey Kennicutt held off all challengers after getting the lead on the fourth lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner Brady Weinman only led one lap but it was the lap that mattered most: He passed Robbie Kosmacek on the final circuit. Tom Baumgardner rode the cushion to the Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers.

Keller can’t be caught at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (June 2) – Jeremy Keller couldn’t be caught in the Friday feature for IMCA Modi­fieds at Dacotah Speedway. Quentin Kinzley was the early leader, ahead of Shawn Strand and Jason Wolla. Wolla, who started eleventh, cracked into the top three by lap 10. Strand caught and passed Kinzley before a caution for debris from Wolla’s race car brought out a caution on lap 12. Wolla was sent to the tail end of the field and on the restart, Keller went low under Strand and took the lead. Keller pulled away from the field until another caution regrouped the field. He edged away on the restart as Strand and Marlyn Seidler battled for second. Seidler slipped by for second with eight laps to go, bringing Brad Hartigan with him. No one could catch Keller, however. Ward sails to Crystal checkers 

CRYSTAL, Mich. (June 3) – Three-time Lane Automotive IMCA Modified track champion A.J. Ward wasted no time moving from his ninth place starting position to take the lead and found clear sailing all the way to the checkered flag Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Chad Wernette did his best to reel in Ward but had to settle for second, followed by Austin Wonch in third. June 10 at Crystal is the Lane Automotive-Optima Batteries IMCA Modified Challenge with a top prize of $1,052. The winner joins the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Tri-City victory for Vance

By Eric Young AUBURN, Mich. (June 2) – Craig Vance started 17th in the field of 21 Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modifieds and won Friday’s main event at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Chris Cohoon came home in second, Gavin Hunyady finished third, Kody Johnson finished fourth from a last-place starting position and Chaz Pray rounded out the top five in the Blood Drive Night main event.

Hurst sails to 2K win Sunday at Dubuque 

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 4) – Racing Sunday at Dubuque Speedway on Sunday was highlighted by the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge, featuring a 40-lap feature for the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. When the green waved for an early restart it was Dubuque driver Jeremiah Hurst taking to the high line around the very smooth 3/8-mile clay track. Hurst went on to lead the flag-to-flag for the $2,000 win. Joel Callahan ran second ahead of Dan Shelliam on Sunday night. The Merfeld Automotive IMCA Modifieds provided the fans with spectacular racing on Sunday night with the winner in doubt right down to the checkered flag. Veteran Dubuque driver Jason Schueller took advantage of a late race restart to emerge from a pack of contenders to take the win by a slim margin over Jed Freiburger.
