Salina Speedway set for opening night this Friday

By John Lowery SALINA, Kan. – It’s been a long off season for many tracks. Salina Speedway is one of those tracks that spent the off-season working hard to make racing experience better for both the racers and the fans. This Friday night, April 25, all of the hard work in the off season will pay off as the first of 24 dates kicks off just after 7:15 p.m. Salina Speedway hosts the best of the best when it comes to dirt track racing on a weekly basis. There are seven classes that comprise the weekly show: BMS IMCA Modifieds, M&H Motors IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks BSB Manufacturing Late Models, sanctioned by the Nesmith Crate Late Model Series in 2014, Coors Light Street Stocks, AutoHouse Towing Mod Lites and the T&R Dirt Construction Mini Stocks. BST Sprint Series opens this weekend at Phillips County, I-76

HOLYOKE, Colo. (April 23) – IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars make their Colorado debut this weekend, with BST Series dates at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke and I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan. Racing starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Phillips County. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the card . Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids and free for five and under. Late models and econos also run April 27 at I-76, where racing gets underway at 1 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30 each night. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded for both shows. Anderson is best in Modified main at Britt

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (April 18) – Jamie Anderson led flag to flag in winning Friday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Hancock County Speedway. Troy Swearingen was the runner-up while Clayton Christensen took third in the 22-car field. Dustin Larson also raced from the pole to the checkers, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. He was followed by Lance Deal and Derek Green. Chanse Hollatz topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Cody Nielsen finished second after starting 12th with Brandon Nielsen taking third. Shane Swanson overtook early leader Cody Knecht to earn the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Bob Sutherland was the runner-up with Matt Hoeft placing third. The newly-sanctioned Mach-1 Sport Compact division had 10 cars and Ryan Bryant came through the field from his inside fourth row starting to be both the hard charger and feature winner. Megan Lappegard was second and Jacob Kofoot was third.

Redline Racing Parts North Star Series opens Saturday at Jackson Speedway

JACKSON, Minn. (April 23) – Opening night of the third annual Redline Racing Parts North Star Series takes five IMCA divisions to Jackson Speedway this Saturday night. The April 26 lidlifter sees IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts in action. Modifieds race for $800 to win and a minimum of $100 to start, Stocks for $600 to win and a minimum of $75 to start, SportMods for $500 to win and a minimum of $50 to start, Hobbies for $400 to win and a minimum of $50 to start, and Sport Compacts $200 to win and a minimum of $30 to start. Foulger outduels Dozier for Antioch honors

ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 19) – Four-time track champion Troy Foulger scored his first victory of the 2014 season Saturday night at Antioch Speedway, after battling Danny Dozier in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. Dozier quickly moved through the pack, fighting off challenges from Carl Berendsen. Foulger and Dozier then fought side-by-side, with Dozier taking the lead on a restart with five laps to go. “I thought the top of the track was faster, and he (Dozier) got me by staying low on the inside,” Foulger explained in victory lane. “He (Dozier) was racing great. Huls, Gower and Becerra are quickest at Quincy

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (April 20) – Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Austen Becerra all took IMCA feature event wins Sunday at Quincy Raceway. Huls started off his 2014 season the right way by leading every lap of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Huls was challenged by Jim Lynch the entire distance but held off the Iowa speedster to take the win followed by Lynch in second, Jerry Jansen in third, Jake Powers in fourth and Brandon Savage in fifth. Gower showed he is going to be a power to be reckoned with in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod division. Practice, opening night rescheduled at Thunderhill Raceway

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – With weather conditions being less than favorable, Thunderhill Raceway has been forced reschedule its planned practice session for April 29 while the season opener has been postponed to May 3. “While we want to get the 2014 season rolling, the biggest emphasis will be put on taking care of the drivers and their race cars,“ promoter Woody Wodack said. “We refuse to tear up equipment or the track just to get opening night in the books.” “The goal will to be to give drivers and race fans the best show possible,” he continued. “Mother Nature has played havoc in recent weeks so we are hoping for some sunshine and dry weather.” A second practice is also in the works. Willamette battle goes to Yeack

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (April 19) – A lengthy side-by-side tussle at Willamette Speedway ended with Kyle Yeack in victory lane. In the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified main event, Matt Mitchell was ultra-quick. The Vancouver, Wash., native had a perfect night headed into the feature and was eligible for a clean sweep. It wouldn’t take long for Mitchell to take possession of the lead as he was dominant but soon would be threatened by another driver. That other driver was Crawfordsville’s Yeack. who started to challenge for the top spot with just 10 laps to go. Mitchell and Yeack battled side-by-side for several laps before Yeack secured the position with just five laps remaining. The three-time Willamette champion went on to win the feature in the first Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified main event of the season.
