Bounty on Munoz amps up Dodge City Stock Car Spectacular

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – This Saturday night’s Inaugural Stock Car Spectacular at Dodge City Raceway Park was already shaping up to live up to its moniker. Now it will likely be beyond “Spectacular” with a price put upon the head of Angel Munoz. The Lamar, Colo., racer has been a seemingly unstoppable force in this year’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car ranks atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City clay oval, racing to victory lane in all three events thus far. Munoz sets his sights on four wins in a row going into Saturday’s Stock Car Spectacular that also includes a full slate of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Miller is grand at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 28) – David Miller was the $1,000 winner of Raceway Park’s Jim Johnson Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks Sunday night. The battle for the top spot raged through the first half of the feature until Miller took control. Behind Miller, Andy Hoffman had been charging through the field from his starting spot near the back, only to come up six feet short at the finish line. Behind Miller and Hoffman, Brandon Nielson took the third spot, followed by Tony Fetterman. Arie Schouten took his second win of the year in the KCAU9 IMCA Northern SportMods, followed by Colby Langenberg, Rusty Montagne and Nelson Vollbrecht. In the Casey’s General Store IMCA Stock Car division, Jason Ward broke into victory lane for the first time this year. Greg Taylor picked up two positions during the final green, white, checkered finish to take second followed by Bo Lundquist and Tom McKenzie.

Bubak scores hard-fought URSS win at RPM

HAYS, Kan. (May 27) – The United Rebel Sprint finally got the monkey off of its back Saturday night before a packed house at RPM Speedway. Fans were treated to an epic battle as Jake Bubak battled young guns Jed Werner and Tracey Hill to take the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win. Outside pole starter Tracey Hill was the early leader before a lap two red flag. Jed Werner grabbed the runner-up spot on the ensuing restart while Bubak advanced to third. Bubak took over second on lap nine, then used traffic to his advantage in taking over the lead on lap 17. Bubak cruised to the victory following a lap 21 caution. Werner, Hill, J.D. IMCA Deery Series, Hawkeye Dirt Tour twinbill next at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Two IMCA series, one with a new point leader and the other with the point leader racing in his hometown, are en route next to Marshalltown Speedway for a Tuesday, June 6 doubleheader. Both the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models and the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds come to town for the midweek Miller Lite 50 special. Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Modified win at Arlington goes to Limoges

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 26) – Redwood Falls hotshoe Tyler Limoges was the third and final leader in Saturday’s MN 93 IMCA Modified main event at Arlington Raceway. Jesse Rogotzke was the early leader but after two laps Clint Hatlestad moved up six spots to take over the race. Limoges also moved up right behind Hatlestad and the two drivers jockeyed back and forth for several laps. In the end, it was Limoges who came out victorious. Birthday celebrant Dan Menk took third. The 95.7 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature saw a repeat winner in Neil Stevens. Shaun Bruns hit the gas coming out of the final turn to edge Dan Mackenthun in the race for the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car checkers. EUNICE, N.M. (May 27-28) – Michael Sheen had to give serious thought to describing his racing weekend at Cardinal Speedway. The winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Cardinal’s eighth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial, held in honor of his father, eventually got around to using the words “awesome” – twice – and “amazing.” “I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. We ended up getting lucky and pulled it off,” said Sheen, who won the Saturday qualifier to earn the Sunday pole start and then led all 25 laps of the main event. “There were a whole bunch of guys behind me who could have won this race.” The victory was good for $2,500 and Sheen, like a number of other drivers racing at Eunice over the holiday weekend donated his share of the purse to the scholarship fund established in his father’s name. West Liberty Raceway hosts Saturday IMCA Late Model special

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – Following two consecutive weeks of rainouts, West Liberty Raceway is set to host the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge. Winner of the Saturday, June 3 IMCA Late Model feature will walk away with a cool $2,000. The night’s racing action will also be the Jennifer Brauns Massey Memorial. Jennifer lost her battle with cancer this past December, Jennifer’s brother Jon Brauns and nephew Jonathan are dedicating this racing season to her memory and are racing to create awareness of ovarian cancer. In addition to the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mach-1 Sport Compacts will all be in action. Farley, Dubuque set for IMCA Late Model specials

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – Officials of Farley Speedway Promotions have announced that both Farley Speedway and Dubuque Speedway will host IMCA Late Model specials this coming weekend, Friday, June 2 and Sunday, June 4. Tri-Track Late Model racing events sponsored by Ideal Ready Mix will highlight the racing action this weekend. Late Model drivers will battle for the winner’s prize money of $2,000. In addition to the high-powered Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will race both Friday and Sunday. Farley Speedway will host racing on Friday, June 2 with hot laps taking to the Palace of Speed at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Families battle for IMCA Modified crown at Perris

PERRIS, Calif. – When it comes to families in racing one must look no farther than the IMCA Modifieds when they return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, June 3. Four of the top five places in the championship standings are occupied by fathers and their racing children and all are expected to be in action Saturday, when spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and the first race will be at 7 p.m. Billy Wormsbecker is the IMCA point leader heading into round four at Perris. However, if he feels some families may stick together and gang up on him, it is perfectly understandable. Mike Kirby, who has two wins in the first three races, trails Wormsbecker by five points. Trailing Kirby by two points is defending track champion Chuck Becker. Becker’s son Brandon, a San Bernardino County sheriff, is currently fourth.
