Willamette Speedway aims to open this Saturday

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. – After last weekend’s disappointing cancellation, Willamette Speedway will once again try to have it’s first racing event of 2018 on Saturday, April 21. While IMCA Modifieds return to the historic 1/3-mile venue, both the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are primed for their Willamette debuts. Pit gates open at 1 p.m. and the front gates open at 3:30. Racing is at 6 p.m. Officials ask that fans and race teams keep a close eye on the track website or Facebook page for weather and race day updates.

Jackson Motorplex postpones IMCA Frostbuster to May 5

By Shawn Miller JACKSON, Minn. – Jackson Motorplex officials have postponed the IMCA Frostbuster one week because of the recent snow accumulation as well as an impending snow storm later this week. The marquee season-opening event during Bank Midwest Night presents the Double Down Showdown will now be contested on Saturday, May 5. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on the card to compete with a unique opportunity for all divisions. The winner’s payout in the respective main events will be doubled if 24 or more cars show up in a given class. Without the bonus, Modifieds will race for $600 to win, Stock Cars and SportMods for $500 to win, Hobby Stocks for $300 to win and Sport Compacts for $100. Early entry numbers push 300 for Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway

EAGLE, Neb. – Eagle Raceway is going to be the place to be this weekend for nearly 300 IMCA drivers Pre-entries for the 2018 lidlifter now include 49 IMCA Modifieds, 46 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, 32 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, 50 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, 65 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and 43 Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Modifieds race for $1,000 to win on Friday, April 20 and for $2,000 to win on Saturday, April 21 while Northern SportMods run for $500 to win both nights. The Twice is Nice Challenge pays a cool grand to drivers in either division who can sweep the weekend main events and both Modified features are qualifying events for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Cedar County Raceway rolls out red carpet for Deery Series opener

TIPTON, Iowa – With a much more promising forecast in store, Cedar County Raceway rolls out the red carpet for opening night of the Deery Brothers Summer Series this Saturday, April 21. The IMCA Late Model tour main event pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. This will be the ninth Deery event held at Tipton since 1996 and the first opener held there in the series’ 32-year history. Mohave Valley Raceway celebrates 25th, Baca celebrates IMCA Modified feature win

MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. (April 14) – Consistency has Chaz Baca on top of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region point standings. Speed put him in victory lane Saturday at Mohave Valley Raceway’s 25th anniversary special … twice. Baca led the last 10 laps in winning the IMCA Modified feature, and $1,500. He also scored the $1,000 checkers in a borrowed dwarf car. “This race has been on our schedule for about a month,” he said following the four-hour tow home to Mesa. “It’s the first time I’ve won two big money races on the same night. Lauer dominates IMCA Modifieds at Merced’s Bill Egleston Tribute

MERCED, Calif. (April 14) – It had been a few years since Danny Lauer turned laps at Merced Speedway but it didn’t take him long to find the fastest way the oval at Saturday’s Bill Egleston Tribute. Lauer led all 50 laps of the evening’s IMCA Modified feature, earning $4,015 along with a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “We were stoked. We unloaded the car and never touched a thing. It was fast all night,” Lauer said after pocketing the biggest check of his career in the class. “I took the lead going into (turn) one on the first lap and ran the bottom. Linkenhoker leads the way in Virginia Sprint Series opener

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (April 14) – Spring finally sprung for the Virginia Sprint Series and Anthony Linkenhoker sped to the IMCA RaceSaver victory Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Mike Keeton challenged throughout in a contest that ran caution-free and ended in second. Daren Bolac was third in the series opener, postponed a week because of winter-like weather. Linkenhoker and Keeton paced the field to green with Linkenhoker out first, Keeton close behind and Tony Harris up to third. Bolac got by Harris and went after Keeton lap after lap, but the bottom was the place to be and he stayed there. Linkenhoker stayed smooth up front even as he caught the rear of the field and that was all he needed to do as he drove under the waving checkered flag. Lawton RaceSaver Sprint show falls to weather

(April 14) – Saturday’s Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products/Hoosier Racing Tires Southwest event at Lawton Speedway was canceled due to blustery weather conditions. Both IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series and track officials are working on a possible makeup date. The next SSO event will take place Friday, April 20 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore.
