Szecsodi sizzles at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (June 8) – Matt Szecsodi made his second visit of the season to victory lane at Tri-City Motor Speedway after taking over the lead of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature on the 10th lap. The start of the feature was dominated by Craig Vance as he drove the bottom line to pace the field. At lap nine, it was Chad Wernette who fought his way from mid -pack to lead. His turn up front would only last a lap as Szecsodi took over the lead. Nate Jones also fought his way through the field and got to second. But without the help of any caution flags, Szecsodi’s lead was too big to overcome. Szecsodi parked in victory lane with his second feature win of 2018. Grossenbacher returns to US 36 to take $1,000 checkers at Budweiser Shootout

OSBORN, Mo. (June 8) – It’s been a few years since he’s been to Osborn but Trevor Grossenbacher showed he still knows how to get to the front at US 36 Raceway. Grossenbacher caught up with Tyler Drueke in traffic and made what proved to be the winning pass with four laps to go in Friday’s Budweiser Shootout feature for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. “The last time I ran here was five years ago,” said Grossenbacher, who earned $1,000 for the feature victory and another $200 for winning his heat race. “It’s a 2-1/2 hour trip for us but I’m sure we’ll go back. It was a fun night.” The fifth starting Drueke and fourth starting Grossenbacher ran 1-2 much of the 20-lapper, contested by 19 cars representing six states. Bolac is the fastest at Dixieland’s Fast Friday

(June 8) – Dixieland Speedway hosted the first Virginia Sprint Series Fast Friday event of the season after an earlier rainout and Daren Bolac was the fastest at his hometown track. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced to IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware getting the run off the top and Rice down low. Ware was steady up top but ultimately no match for Bolac, who proved the bottom was fast as well in taking away the lead. Tom Humphries got by Rice and was shadowing Ware lap after lap but their pursuit was changing every corner of every lap as Jerald Harris, C.J. Faison, Tony Harris, Jake McLain, Jeff Taylor and Randy Sterling were all in a pack. Bolac stayed strong up front and Humphries got by Ware, leaving him to deal with Faison. Muenster tops Modified main at Luxemburg

(June 8) – In the racing world, it’s an impressive feat to win two races in a row, but to do it on back-to-back nights on two distinctly different surfaces is something rarely seen anymore. Eddie Muenster pulled it off, though, scoring a late model win on Thursday night and following it up with his first IMCA Modified win of the season Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. Chase Parker led early on, with Muenster and Brian Mullen hot on his heels. Parker did his best to keep the veterans at bay but Muenster eventually found his way past for the lead. Mullen also passed Parker and began to pester Muenster for the top spot. As Parker began to fade, Shawn Kilgore and Mike Mullen came from deep in the field to join the top four. Docekal dials up SportMod Challenge win at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 8) – Joe Docekal dialed up the $2,000 feature win at Davenport Speedway’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge Friday night. The 50-lap main event started with Troy Bauer taking the lead from a front row starting spot. After a lap 11 restart, Dalton Simonsen, made his bid for the lead on the high side. As Bauer moved up to block the move, Tony Olson dove to the bottom and took away the lead. Olson, the 2016 SportMod Challenge winner, then led the next 30 laps. The final restart came on lap 44 and allowed Docekal to drive around Olson for lead. Docekal led the remaining laps for the win. Gage Neal also passed Olson in the final laps to finish second. Olson held on for third. Brayton Carter finished fourth and Simonsen fifth. Drivers from three states vied in the sixth annual event. Ward wins again at Outlaw

(June 8) – Will Ward slid past Rich Karlnoski on the 10th circuit and cruised to his second straight Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Outlaw Speedway. Karlnoski had taken the lead at the drop of the initial green. Brandon Smith and Rodney Morgan fought side-by-side over the finals laps for second, with Morgan getting the position at the checkers. Completing the top five were Smith, Phil Yaw and Karlnoski.

Landrum Performance Springs adds Late Models to IMCA awards program

MENTONE, Ind. – Landrum Performance Springs adds a sixth division to its IMCA awards program this season. All IMCA Late Model track champions will receive a pair of springs from the Mentone, Ind., manufacturer. In its 14th year as a sponsor for the sanctioning body, Landrum has also renewed awards for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods. A product certificate to purchase one spring and get a second free goes to top three eligible drivers in each of the five Modified regions, both Stock Car regions and both Hobby Stock regions, and to top three eligible drivers in national Northern SportMod and national Southern SportMod point standings. IMCA Modifieds make Sheyenne Speedway debut this Sunday

LISBON, N.D. — For the first time, IMCA Modifieds are coming to Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, N.D. Fans will get their first glimpse of the Powdercoat Specialists IMCA Modifieds on the 1/4-mile dirt oval this Sunday, June 10. Racing begins at 6 p.m. Modifieds have appeared at Sheyenne in past years, but this will be the first time IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds will run at the track.
