Swenson slides ahead for I-37 feature win

Swenson, Cody Leonard and Nebraska’s Chad Andersen had a good three-car battle going for the top spot in the 20-lap IMCA Modified Dirt Kings main event. Chevrolet Performance pays cash bonuses to crate engine powered IMCA track champions

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – For a 15th consecutive season, IMCA drivers competing exclusively with crate engines and winning track championships will receive cash bonuses from Chevrolet Performance. Eligible IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod drivers winning track championships will earn bonuses of $250 while tracks sanctioning any combination of those divisions and displaying Chevrolet Performance banners become eligible for cash bonuses of their own. One hundred and seventy-four track championship-winning IMCA drivers earned shares of a record $43,500 in bonuses paid in 2018. Chevrolet Performance bonuses totaling more than $280,000 have been paid since the crate engine bonus program began with Northern SportMod cash awards in 2005. That program expanded to include Modified, Hobby Stock and Southern SportMod divisions, then began paying track championship bonuses in 2010. U.S. 36 Raceway schedules practice for Wednesday, March 27

OSBORN, Mo. – U.S. 36 Raceway is adding a practice to the schedule Wednesday, March 27 from 6-10 p.m. After cancelling practice on Saturday, track officials want to allow drivers the opportunity to make some laps around the 3/8th mile oval before opening night. Pit gates will open at 5 p.m. and pit passes are $25. Practice is open to all classes of cars for the four-hour session. Seidler finds success at Arkansas Spring Nationals

BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 22) – Marlyn Seidler had mixed success in his early-season IMCA Modified foray to Arizona. He traveled to Arkansas and Batesville Motor Speedway to get his first feature win of the year, and the 88th of his career in the division on Friday night. Seidler started on the pole and led all 25 laps of the star-filled Arkansas Spring Nationals main event. Jeff Taylor, Tyler Stevens, Kelly Shryock and Ken Schrader rounded out the top five. “Winning a race like this is a big deal for an old, gray-haired dirt farmer,” said Seidler, who earned $2,000 and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth along with the checkers. “There were a lot of good cars here and I’m grateful that I’m still able to run with these guys.” The North Dakota long tow had to beat Taylor to the first turn. HAYS, Kan. – The first green flag of the new season flies when RPM Speedway opens with its Mike ‘Huey’ Hughes Sunflower Classic on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win each night at Hays. Both features are qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. SPENCER, Iowa – One of IMCA’s most popular partnerships continues in 2019 as Arnold Motor Supply returns as title sponsor of the Dirt Knights Modified Tour. The tour makes its first-ever appearance at Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge for opening night on Tuesday, May 21. Stampede tire samples tested

VINTON, Iowa – Testing of tire samples taken at the Southern Stampede have determined both to conform with benchmarks for the Hoosier IMCA G-60 tire. Samples were taken at Southern Oklahoma Speedway from tires of IMCA Modified feature winners Jason Hughes and Ricky Thornton Jr. Testing was conducted at Blue Ridge Labs in North Carolina. “The nature of enforcing rules regarding the chemical treatment of tires is time consuming, tedious and can be expensive on a widespread scale,” noted IMCA President Brett Root, “but it’s important for our members to know it is an issue we constantly monitor and enforce.” “It’s easy for rumors and speculation about cheating to end up in the court of public opinion through social media channels,” he added. “Our member drivers want to know and demand to know we’re testing.” “They need to have faith in our system and know that the winners of our most prestigious events are not cheating,” concluded Root. “This is an excellent example of that.”
