Scott makes right move for Vinton IMCA Modified Frostbuster win

VINTON, Iowa (April 9) – No way, figured Johnny Scott, did he have a realistic shot at winning Sunday’s IMCA Modified Frostbuster feature after drawing the 12th starting spot. Yes way. Scott slipped inside Kyle Brown for the lead on the 19th of 25 laps, then held Brown and Jason Wolla in check following a restart with four to go to win the headline event at Benton County Speedway. “I didn’t think there was any way, especially with so many good cars here, but we made the right move at the right time,” said Scott, also the $1,000 feature winner ahead of Brown at the opening night Frostbuster Friday at Marshalltown. “The bottom was dominant and I had to take the chance when Kyle bobbled a little.” The two made contact going into the first turn. Scott drove by for the eventual win, chased to the checkers by Brown, Wolla, Scott Hogan and 20th starting Joel Rust. “There was a little contact but it was not intentional. I don’t race like that. It was a racing deal,” Scott [Read More]

Despite heavy heart, Denny Eckrich gets Deery Series win at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (April 8) – After winning Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at West Liberty Raceway, Denny Eckrich took time to remember friend Mike Humphrey, killed in a car accident earlier this week in Louisiana. “He helped me get into a Black Diamond (Chassis). He helped a lot of racers,” Eckrich said. “Mike was a good guy and he died too soon. There are a lot of heavy hearts tonight.” Eckrich led the last seven of 40 laps after taking the outside line around Jeremiah Hurst and Jesse Sobbing following a late restart. The $2,000 checkers were his IMCA Late Model tour career sixth; he also won the first series race held at West Liberty last year. Outside front row starter Spencer Diercks led the first 15 laps before slowing and watching Hurst motor by. Eckrich was part of a mid-race tangle with Jake Neal during their battle for second that left the left side of his car more than a little banged up but he soldiered on. Hurst and Sobbing got together [Read More]
