Sixth annual Modified Stampede this Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – The stampede is on! After getting pushed back by bad weather last month, the sixth annual Modified Stampede will hit the track at Dodge City Raceway Park this Saturday night, May 19. In addition to a $750-to-win IMCA Modified feature, Saturday night’s action will also include a full card of championship chase action featuring the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks with racing action going green at 7:30 p.m. Woodward, Okla.’s Cole Traugott is the reigning Modified Stampede champion, racing to his second consecutive event win last year ahead of defending track champion Clay Sellard and Randy Wilson. While Traugott has a pair of Modified Stampede victories to his credit, other past event winners include David Murray (2015 and both nights in 2013) and Brendon Gemmill (2014). Tickets for Saturday’s Stampede are $15 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Harris sweeps at Natural Bridge

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (May 12) – The hottest driver on the first hot weekend of the season was Jerald Harris. Harris first won his heat race, then went on to take the Saturday night Virginia Sprint Series feature at Natural Bridge Speedway. Bill Rice and Chris Ware stayed side-by-side up front for the first three laps of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event. Jerald Harris, Tony Harris and Mike Leraas were all trying to find a way by the front two before Jerald Harris made the first move and got by Ware for second. Jerald Harris went low and to the lead leaving Rice to race with Leraas for second. Leraas got to second and was chasing Harris for the lead. Mike Keeton and Daren Bolac made their way up as the laps clicked off, getting closer to the front. Saturday date for IMCA Modifieds at Skyline

CORTLAND, N.Y. – IMCA Modifieds are on the card this Saturday, May 19 at Skyline Raceway Park. There is no entry fee and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region and New York State points are at stake. The pit gate and grandstand both open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at approximately 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $30. Spectator admission is $11 for adults, $9 for students ages 10-14 and seniors 65 and over, and free for kids nine and under. More information is available by calling 607 745-0275. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks also run at Cortland. The program is sponsored by the Royal Auto Group. Sanctioned Modifieds are not running at Thunder Mountain Speedway this weekend.

Central Arizona winners are Mecl, George

By Jeff McSpadden CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (May 12) – Persistent Tyler Mecl and a very fast Jason George were IMCA winners Saturday at Central Arizona Speedway. Mecl used the outside of the speedway to surprise Jeremy Thornton and take over the lead coming to the stripe to complete the ninth lap of the IMCA Modified main. From there, Mecl weathered one last caution on lap 12 to take the checkered flag by more than two seconds over Thornton and Trevor Mille. Jason George shot from fifth to first, somehow going lower on the speedway than the three-wide trio of Gerry Glenn, Mark Farnes and Chris Tipton on the first lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern Sport Mod feature. George pulled away to a full straightaway lead by the halfway mark and simply checked out over the last 10 laps of the race. George crossed the finish line almost nine seconds ahead of Glenn.

Oaks soars to first win at Eagle

(May 12) – Steffen Oaks took the lead with four laps left en route to taking the first checkers of his ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact career victory Saturday at Eagle Raceway. His drive to the front started outside row four. “It took me awhile to finally get a win, with several second places, but I finally got it!,” he said post-race. “It was a really fast track tonight, but man, those bumps about got me a few times. I managed to keep it straight and hold on for the win.” Casey Moyer won his first Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature since the 2012 season and Lance Borgman raced from 10th starting to win the Purdue University IMCA Northern SportMod main event for the third time already this season at Eagle. Jordan Grabouski got the lead early in winning the Runner Freight IMCA Modified feature and Tyler Drueke took charge with nine laps remaining in winning the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature.

Lamberies now two for two at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 12) – Lucas Lamberies hustled back from Iowa to race Saturday night at Shawano Speedway. It proved to be a good move for the Clintonville teenager as he won his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature in a row to start the season. Kyle Raddant and then Jordan Barkholtz held the early lead. By lap eight Lamberies moved to second on the track. On lap 13, Barkholtz got high in turn two and brushed the outside wall. That was the opening Lamberies needed as he stormed past Barkholtz to take the top spot. Lamberies led the rest of the way for his second win in a row. Barkholtz held on for second, followed by Jordan Bartz, Todd Wiese, and Raddant. Mike Mullen was the IMCA Modified winner and Travis Van Straten paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main.

Ward tops IMCA Modified main at Outlaw

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 11) – Will Ward was the winner of a caution-free Friday night IMCA Modified feature at Outlaw Speedway. Rodney Morgan got the lead in the 25-lapper after a battle with pole starter Todd Stone. There was a lot of battling behind Morgan as Brandon Smith moved into second and Ward charged past Phil Yaw for third. Just past halfway, Smith and Ward moved into first and second, respectively, and battled for the lead, with Ward making a strong pass coming to the white flag for the win.

Ryan captures Davenport IMCA Late Model checkers

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 11) – Matt Ryan collected his first Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature win of the season at Davenport Speedway on Friday night. Ryan wrestled the lead from Chad Holladay on lap seven and led the rest to the checkers. Lapped traffic and a caution flag gave Holladay a couple chances to get to Ryan’s bumper but he had to settle for second. Rob Toland finished a close third. Toland rolled to his second Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature win of the season at Davenport. After an opening lap incident, Toland moved up to the front row for the restart. That was all Rob needed. Toland sped away from the field and cruised to an easy victory. Bryce Garnhart finished second with Chris Zogg third. Dustin Schram won his first Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature this year. Andrew Burk edged out Brandon Setser for second.

IMCA Modified Madness at Davenport pays $2,000 to win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds chase a top check of $2,000 along with a berth on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational at Davenport Speedway’s Friday, May 18 Modified Madness 50 special. The main event pays a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and Iowa State points, but no track points will be awarded. Modifieds are draw/redraw. There is a $50 entry fee. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and free for kids ages 12 and under. Pit passes are $30. IMCA Late Models and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the program that evening, vying for all points. All racing will be on the quarter-mile oval.
