TIPTON, Iowa (Sept. 27, 2026) — Cedar County Raceway hosted 152 race teams Sunday for the Kathy Dlouhy Memorial, an event honoring a woman who poured her heart and soul into the Tipton facility.
The Modifieds headlined the program with 24 cars taking the green for the 20-lap, $1,500-to-win feature. Cody Laney advanced from the third row and took the lead away from early pacesetter Donovan Lodge.
Laney remained out front as Spencer Diercks began closing the gap late in the race. Lapped traffic gave Diercks an opportunity to challenge in the closing circuits, but Laney held him off by less than a car length to secure the win.
The win was Laney’s sixth of the 2026 season at five different tracks and his first at Cedar County this year. It was also the Torrance, Calif., driver’s fourth Razor Chassis North Central Region victory.
Laney’s $1,500 triumph also earned him eligibility to attempt to qualify for the 2027 Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
Diercks finished second, with Jeff Larson third, Brad Dierks fourth, and Zach VanderBeek fifth.
Butt Holds Off Miles and Donates Winnings Back to Cedar County
The Hobby Stocks set the high-water mark for the event with 36 entries, and 16-year-old Carson Butt added another notable victory to his season by holding off Karter Miles for the $750 payday.
The victory was Butt’s eighth B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win of 2026 and his first at Cedar County this year.
Following the feature, Butt announced in victory lane that he was donating his winnings back to the track improvement fund in Dlouhy’s honor.
“We are giving our winnings back to the track to put into the track improvement fund in honor of Kathy Dlouhy,” Butt said. “We love this track and love coming here.”
Miles finished second, with Tom Killen third, Nathan Ballard fourth, and Kael Koch fifth.
Larson Goes Flag-to-Flag for First Stock Car Win of 2026
Thirty Stock Cars checked in to battle for 24 starting positions in the $1,200-to-win main event.
Jeff “Bone” Larson took advantage of a favorable redraw to start from the pole and never relinquished the top spot, leading flag-to-flag for his first Stock Car victory of the season in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region.
The victory also earned Larson eligibility to attempt to qualify for the 2027 B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Stock Car Invitational at Super Nationals.
Jordan Miles provided the charge through the field, racing from 15th to second. Kyle Merkes finished third, David Brandies was fourth, and Justin Becker completed the top five.
Van Wyk Bests Carter for 17th Victory of the Season
The $1,000-to-win SportMod feature developed into a battle between two of Iowa’s most successful drivers in 2026 as Oskaloosa’s Dylan Van Wyk and Brayton Carter fought for the victory.
Van Wyk prevailed at the checkers for his 17th victory of the season and first at Cedar County in 2026.
Carter settled for second, followed by Bryson Eckrich, Ben Chapman, and Chris Burke.
All proceeds from the Kathy Dlouhy Memorial will go toward the Cedar County Raceway track improvement fund. Event organizer Sarah Anderson thanked the race teams, officials, track workers, fans, and the Dlouhy family for helping make the event a success.
