BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 8, 2026) — Cody Laney used lapped traffic to his advantage in the closing laps to charge from ninth starting and score a dramatic Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified victory Saturday night at Boone Speedway.
Paul Nagle paced the opening eight laps before a bobble in turn two on lap nine handed the lead to Colby Fett. Fett appeared headed for victory until lapped traffic came into play with two laps remaining.
Laney, driving the Drew Janssen-built machine, capitalized by slicing through traffic to grab the lead on lap 18 and race away with the victory.
The Torrance, Calif., driver earned his third win of the season. All three victories have come at different tracks, in different states, and in different IMCA regions, with Saturday’s triumph marking his first Razor Chassis North Central Region win this year.
Nick Meyer advanced six positions to finish second. Fett settled for third, Todd Shute charged from 11th to fourth, and Nagle completed the top five.
Everts and Richards Split Stock Car Features
The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars drew 46 entries, requiring a pair of feature events.
The opening feature produced the closest finish of the night as Kyle Everts held off a charging David Smith by just .087 seconds.
The race was interrupted by a frightening red flag on lap four when Buck Schafroth barrel-rolled several times along the frontstretch after contact near the start-finish line. Schafroth climbed from his car under his own power and acknowledged the crowd with a thumbs up.
Everts held off Smith’s late charge for his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season.
Smith advanced seven positions to finish second. Miciah Hidelbaugh gained five spots for third, Tyler Pickett finished fourth, and Nathan Wood advanced five positions to round out the top five.
In the second feature, Braden Richards worked forward from sixth starting to take command on lap six and never relinquished the lead.
The Madrid driver collected his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of 2026 and his second Boone Speedway Stock Car win of the season.
Hunter Smith charged from 11th to second, gaining nine positions to earn hard charger honors. Troy Jerovetz finished third, Chris Pruitt was fourth, and Matthew West completed the top five.
Vincent and Gustin Earn First Career SportMod Wins
A field of 44 Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods also necessitated split features.
Camdan Vincent of Nevada dominated the opening 18-lapper, leading every circuit to score his first career victory.
Even after a late caution erased his comfortable advantage, Vincent quickly rebuilt his lead to pull away from the field.
Brett Thomas finished second, Jessiah Taylor was third, Willy Kirk advanced seven positions to fourth, and Alec Fett rounded out the top five.
The second feature saw Joe Doran take the early lead before Brayden Gustin of Marshalltown powered into the top spot on lap four.
Gustin and Doran battled throughout the remainder of the race before Gustin prevailed for his first career SportMod victory.
Doran finished second, Hunter Longnecker advanced eight positions to third, Bryan Morris was fourth, and Jeremiah Reed charged from 14th to fifth with a nine-position gain.
Killen and Gifford Divide Hobby Stock Features
The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks attracted 49 entries, resulting in split features.
Tom Killen Jr. charged from eighth starting to capture the opening feature after taking advantage when Jamie Coady slipped high while leading on lap seven.
The Des Moines driver earned his fourth B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season and his first Boone Speedway triumph of 2026.
Briar Kriegel finished second, Seth Butler and Joe Wollenhaupt each advanced six positions to third and fourth, while Alex Yoerger earned hard charger honors by storming from 18th to fifth with a 13-position gain.
Wayne Gifford raced from fifth to the lead on lap five of the second feature and never looked back.
The Boone driver scored his third B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season and his second Boone Speedway win of 2026.
Eric Knutson advanced eight positions to finish second, Joey Young was third, Zach Ankrum also gained eight spots to finish fourth, and Aaron Fye completed the top five.
Elliott Scores First Mod Lite Victory
Grant Anderson led the opening 10 laps of the Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lite feature before Landon Elliott of Boone made the winning pass on lap 11.
The victory was Elliott’s first in the Mod Lite division.
Austin Gray stormed forward 10 positions to finish second and earn hard charger honors. Anderson settled for third, Jon Braathun finished fourth, and Josh May rounded out the top five.
