BOONE, Iowa (May 9, 2026) — Fans at Boone Speedway were treated to another packed night of Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing action with strong car counts, dramatic finishes, and several wild incidents across multiple divisions.

Mike Smith of Lake City charged from eighth starting position and took the lead from Matt Avila with seven laps remaining in the opening Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature at Boone Speedway. Smith went on to secure his fourth victory of the season, with his last two wins coming in consecutive weeks at Boone.

Avila finished second ahead of Chris Webb, while Cam Vincent and Mitchell Morris completed the top five.

The second IMCA Northern SportMod feature included late-race drama for Jake Sachau, who suffered a right rear flat tire with four laps remaining. Another caution allowed him to visit the work area for repairs, and despite restarting at the rear, Sachau stormed back to finish seventh.

Up front, Kelley driver Cam Reimers charged from 11th starting position and took the lead from Gage Hilgenberg on lap 15. Reimers collected his third win of the year and second straight Boone victory.

Willy Kirk advanced from 10th to second while Hilgenberg settled for third. Randy Havlik and Curtis Veber rounded out the top five.

A stout field of 45 IMCA Northern SportMods required split features, and both mains delivered plenty of excitement.

W. Smith and Knutson Score Hobby Stock Victories

In the opening Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock main event, Lake City’s Will Smith charged from ninth to score his third B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season, with all three wins coming at Boone Speedway.

Wayne Gifford crossed the line second while Joey Young advanced from eighth to third. Seth Butler and Dylan Hill completed the top five.

The second IMCA Hobby Stock feature was interrupted by a frightening crash in turn one. Shane Butler broke a right front lower ball joint, sending his car sharply to the right as he entered the corner. Brayson Siegle, a 15-year-old driver from Colorado, attempted to avoid the spinning machine but clipped Butler, launching into a series of violent flips before coming to rest near the catwalk.

Siegle exited the car under his own power with assistance from safety crews, though the car suffered extensive damage.

When the race resumed, Slater’s Eric Knutson charged from eighth to capture his second B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win of the season and first at Boone in 2026.

Joe Wollenhaupt advanced from ninth to second while Corey VanDerWilt drove from 10th to third. Bryce Sommerfield and Mitchell McNeill rounded out the top five.

Thirty-eight IMCA Hobby Stocks packed the pit area and also ran split features.

Jaennette and Mueller Lead Strong Stock Car Performances

In the first Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event, Kellogg driver Michael Jaennette raced from sixth to collect his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season after also winning the previous night at Marshalltown Speedway.

Jimmy Gustin advanced from 10th to second while Tyler Pickett finished third. Kyle Everts and Devin Smith completed the top five.

The second IMCA Stock Car feature saw Boone’s Jeff Mueller lead every lap, although Troy Jerovetz kept heavy pressure on him throughout the race and nearly stole the win late.

Mueller held on for his first Northern Region victory of the season. Jerovetz finished second while Matthew Meinecke advanced from ninth to third. Jonathan Logue took fourth, and Hunter Smith, formerly of Colorado, rounded out the top five.

Forty-one Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars were on hand for another pair of competitive split feature events.

Mills Charges to Modified Victory

Nick Meyer appeared headed toward victory in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified main event before suffering a left rear flat tire with seven laps remaining.

That opened the door for defending Razor Chassis North Central Region champion Jeremy Mills of Clear Lake, who stormed from 11th starting position to score his second regional win of the season, with both victories coming at Boone Speedway.

Russ Dickerson advanced from 13th to second while Jake McBirnie worked from 12th to third. Chase Weishaar finished fourth, and Cory Sauerman charged from 21st to fifth.

Twenty-six IMCA Modifieds checked in for the evening.

George Grabs Last-Lap Mod Lite Victory

The Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lite feature was slowed by a scary incident on lap five when Colby Oberembt flipped hard in turns three and four after winning the previous night at Marshalltown Speedway. Fortunately, Oberembt was uninjured.

Charlie Brown led early before Corey Sonner took command on lap four. Altoona driver Ben George then made a last-lap pass on Sonner to secure his second victory of the season.

Sonner settled for second ahead of Austin Gray, while Josh May and California’s Riley Clem completed the top five.

Thirty IMCA Mod Lites signed in for competition.
