ALGONA, Iowa (May 7, 2026) — A stout 22-car Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock field highlighted Thursday’s season opener at Kossuth County Speedway, where Dan Hanselman added another chapter to an already impressive track résumé.
Corbin White controlled the early portion of the feature, leading the first seven laps while navigating a pair of cautions that kept the field tightly packed. On the restart following the second yellow, Hanselman made his move and never looked back, taking command and pacing the final seven circuits.
The victory marked Hanselman’s 30th career Hobby Stock triumph at Kossuth County Speedway. For the Algona veteran, it also carried a bit of surprise — it was the first time he has ever opened a season with a feature win at his home track and his first triumph of 2026 in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region.
Chris Krug secured second after fending off pressure behind him, while Brandon Nielsen worked his way onto the podium in third. White remained in contention to finish fourth, and James Burns delivered one of the drives of the night, charging forward eight positions to round out the top five. Nielsen matched that gain, also advancing eight spots during the feature.
Heat race victories went to Steve Wickman, Jay Sidles, and Nathan DeRagon.
A strong field of Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds kicked off its season with a race that evolved into a patient pursuit for the lead.
Nick Meyer set the pace through the opening 10 laps before Jerry Flippo began to close the gap. Flippo, who now calls Rockford home after relocating from Bakersfield, California, completed the pass on lap 11 and led the remainder of the distance to collect his first Razor Chassis North Central Region win of the year.
Meyer held on for second, followed by Matthew Looft in third. Chaz Baca and Jeremy Mills completed the top five. Flippo and Baca claimed Modified heat race wins earlier in the program.
The Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature saw early movement before settling into a commanding performance out front.
Calvin Lange led the opening two laps before Johnathon Logue took over on lap three and never relinquished the top spot. The Logansport driver drove away to secure his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season, coming at two different tracks.
Behind him, the battle for second kept fans engaged as Derek Green, Kelly Shryock, McCain Jennings, and Lange raced in close quarters. Green ultimately emerged with the runner-up finish, while Shryock crossed in third after advancing eight positions. Jennings was fourth, followed by Lange.
Heat race wins in the Stock Cars went to Ryan Roath, Shryock, and Green.
The Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods feature was slowed repeatedly by cautions, but up front, it was all Charlie Stevens.
The Algona racer started from the pole and led all 15 laps, navigating five yellow flags along the way to secure his first win of the 2026 season. The race saw cautions on laps one and seven and again on lap nine, but Stevens remained composed throughout.
Josh Appel finished second, with George Nordman taking third. Kamdyn Haggard was fourth, while Mat Hollerich turned in an impressive drive from 20th to complete the top five as the feature’s hard charger.
Heat race wins were recorded by Nordman, Stevens, and Appel.
The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts opened feature racing for the new season with a straightforward contest.
Charles Prime set the tone immediately, taking the lead at the drop of the green and pacing all six laps to secure the win. The Britt driver earned his first victory of the season.
Brooke Osler finished second, followed by Jeff Trosin in third and Chris Nelson in fourth. Osler claimed the division’s lone heat race win.
