Poll rides to Maquoketa IMCA Late Model checkers

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 2) – He glanced at the green light each time he drove down the back stretch and front stretch.

Jon Poll did not want that green to change to yellow.

He got his wish and the Bellevue driver rolled to the Andover Meat IMCA Late Model 25-lap fea­ture win Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.

“Just hoping there wasn’t a caution for me,” Poll said. “I did one final adjustment before I climbed in and it paid off.”

Poll started on the pole, dodged a few raindrops late and held off veteran Joe Ross, who stayed there the entire race.

Eyes were on Andy Nezworski, who had the previous two wins. He started deep in the field and hit the top five by lap three. He jumped two spots on laps 12 and 13, but could climb no further.

Jeff Larsen started again on the front row and again led all 20 laps to win his second straight QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified finale.

Jarrett Franzen made a late-race pass of Timmy Current and became the first B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod repeat winner of 2018.

Joe Bonney survived side by side battles throughout the 15-lap Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Car 15-lap main.

Daniel Wauters stormed to the front of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock 12-lapper and took his se­cond straight win.

Action continues this Saturday June 9 with mid-season championships in all regular divisions.

Maquoketa IMCA Late Model win goes to Nezworski

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 25) – It was revenge against Mother Nature. A great crowd witnessed an overflowed pit area of 120 race teams Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway after no racing since May 4. No one was more ready for a win than Andy Nezworski. The Buffalo ace started out front, held off early challenges from Todd Malmstrom and then a charging Jeremiah Hurst to capture the season opener for the Andover Meat IMCA Late Models. “It’s an advantage starting up front, no doubt,” Nezworski said in Hoker Trucking/C&W Trucking Victory Lane. “But you have to stay there and we were quick enough to hold them off.” Nezworski opened a quick advantage. Hurst moved to second about halfway through the 25-lapper and closed a half straightaway deficit as Nezworski hit traffic on lap 15. A pair of circuits later, the leader got into lapped traffic just in time for a caution to fly. Maquoketa Speedway hosts All Star Night this Saturday

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 9, 2024) – Maquoketa Speedway is set to host a full day of festivities on Saturday, April 13. The quarter-mile dirt track located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds on the east edge of Maquoketa will begin a very busy day with a race car show beginning at noon. Fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet drivers and see the cars up close. The Maquoketa Speedway Kids Club will host an Easter Egg Hunt for kids under the age of 12 beginning at 1 p.m. More than 500 eggs will be distributed to the kids, eggs will have prizes and candy packed into the eggs. Soppe wins number 100 plus track title at Maquoketa

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 24) – Again, no matter the obstacle, Tyler Soppe cranked the steering wheel one way and then back the other while at full speed.  It was no surprise he was at the front of the 15-lap B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod Season Championship feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.  Soppe had clinched the track championship before the green flag ever flew.  “This is what we’re here for and the championship tops it off,” Soppe said. ““We like the track and what Nick (Promoter McCrady) has done with it. We’ll be back next year.”  Soppe’s victory was the ninth at Maquoketa and 26th overall in 2019.
