Kay makes late-race charge to big West Liberty Raceway win

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (May 21) – Saturday night’s racing action at West Liberty Raceway in­cluded the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge featuring a 40 lap main event for the iWireless IMCA Late Models.

The main event provided the race fans with edge of the seat racing action as Justin Kay contin­ued his mastery of the oval. Kay took the initial green back in the seventh row and started his run to the front early in the race. It took Kay until lap 38 to chase down race leader Tyler Bruening. Kay led the last two laps to collect the $2,000 top prize. Bruening settled for second ahead of Denny Eckrich and Joel Callahan.

The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature saw 24 competitors take the initial green flag lap and 16 laps ran off caution-free before the races only yellow flag was thrown.

Bruce Hanford had his huge lead erased and on the restart a four-lap dash to the finish saw Larry Her­ring score his first win of the year by taking the lead from Hanford. Matt Fulton Jr. turned in another fine run in third.

Young Colton Livesy took top honors on Saturday night in the Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA North­ern SportMod class. Livesy led the charge of the young talent in scoring the win ahead of Jarret Brown and Aaron Osweiler.

Johnny Spaw scored another Kile Motorsports IMCA Stock Car feature win. Spaw took the check­ers ahead of David Brandies and Greg Gill.

Steve Struck continued his perfect season at the West Liberty Raceway by topping the US 6 Body­works IMCA Sport Compact feature. Struck held off defending track champion Jason Klerk­derus in scoring the 10-lap main event.
