Sachau Reaches 100 Career Wins while Doran Breaks Through in SportMods at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (May 23, 2026) — Jake Sachau highlighted Saturday’s racing action at Boone Speedway by earning his 100th career Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature victory while Joe Doran broke through for his first career win in the division.

In the second feature, Brayden Fahrni led the opening four laps before Manning’s Sachau, who started 10th, powered into the lead on lap five and never looked back. The victory was Sachau’s eighth overall win of the 2026 season and fifth at Boone Speedway this year.

Mike Smith matched Sachau’s charge by advancing from 10th to second while Dusty Masolini climbed from eighth to third. Randy Havlik started 10th and finished fourth while Washington native Chris Frisbee completed the top five.

Earlier in the first feature, Paton’s Joe Doran led all 18 laps to secure his first career Northern SportMod victory. Willy Kirk raced from 10th to second while Kamdyn Haggard finished third. Chris Onstot crossed the line fourth and Camdan Vincent advanced from 13th to fifth.

Smith Brothers Shine in Boone Stock Car Features

The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars produced a pair of entertaining features highlighted by victories from Doug Smith and Devin Smith.

In the second feature, Lincoln VanSickle paced the early circuits before Lake City’s Doug Smith surged into the lead on lap seven and drove away for his second victory of the week following a Wednesday triumph at Buena Vista Raceway. Smith started eighth and collected his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region win of the season.

David Smith advanced from 10th to finish second while Miciah Hidlebaugh charged from 16th to third. Austin Meiners crossed the line fourth and Tyler Pickett climbed from 10th to fifth.

The first feature saw Cody Gustoff lead much of the race before Devin Smith stormed to the front late, taking over the top spot on lap 19. Smith advanced from ninth to score his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season.

Gustoff settled for second while Parker Slagle finished third. Jimmy Gustin climbed from 11th to fourth and Blake Lehman rounded out the top five.

Frederick and Knutson Capture Boone Hobby Stock Wins

The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks featured a pair of strong performances from Justin Frederick and Eric Knutson.

In the second feature, Cleghorn’s Frederick grabbed the lead on lap 11 and held on the rest of the distance for his second win of the week and second B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region triumph of 2026. Frederick started seventh while Corey VanDerWilt advanced from 11th to second. Daniel Davis finished third ahead of Wayne Gifford, while Nathan DeRagon charged from 12th to fifth.

The first feature saw Slater’s Knutson take command on lap four after Brianna Osterkamp inherited the lead when Keith Burg pulled off under caution with a stuck throttle after pacing the opening two laps.

Knutson started 12th and earned his fifth B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season, with three wins coming at Boone Speedway. Alex Yoerger advanced from 10th to second while Joe Wollenhaupt climbed from 11th to third. Tanner Jones charged from 14th to fourth and Matt McDonald completed the top five.

Fitz Fends Off Field in Modified Main

The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature saw North Carolina native Griffin Taylor lead the opening handful of laps before Trevor Fitz took over on lap six.

Fitz, originally from Camarillo, California and now living in Marshalltown, maintained command the rest of the way to secure his second Razor Chassis North Central Region victory of the season, with both wins coming at Boone Speedway.

Florida native Owen Barnhill charged from 10th to second while Taylor settled for third. California transplant Braden Claborn finished fourth ahead of Jake McBernie.

Padilla Powers to Corn Belt Clash Mod Lite Victory

The Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lites continued the weekend’s Corn Belt Clash mini-series with Silvis, Illinois driver Jon Padilla leading all 20 laps for the victory.

Padilla earned his third win of the season at two different tracks and his first triumph of 2026 outside his home state.

Bryan Zehm finished second while Josh May advanced from ninth to third. Austin Gray charged from 16th to fourth and Joel Huggins climbed from 10th to fifth.

The feature was slowed with eight laps remaining when Colby Oberembt and Brandon Freeburg tangled in turn one, sending both cars upside down. Both drivers were uninjured but unable to continue. It marked the fourth rollover of the season for the Oberembt team.
