Maquoketa Speedway set to open Saturday

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 24) – Again, no matter the obstacle, Tyler Soppe cranked the steering wheel one way and then back the other while at full speed.  It was no surprise he was at the front of the 15-lap B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod Season Championship feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.  Soppe had clinched the track championship before the green flag ever flew.  “This is what we’re here for and the championship tops it off,” Soppe said. ““We like the track and what Nick (Promoter McCrady) has done with it. We’ll be back next year.”  Soppe’s victory was the ninth at Maquoketa and 26th overall in 2019. By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 3, 2023) – Maquoketa Speedway hosted the fifth night of the 2023 season Saturday on an a very warm night for early June. The racing action was outstanding with lots of close finishes on a very racy ¼-mile track.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw a first-time winner for the 2023 season make his way to victory lane. Austin Blume drove a perfect race riding the extreme high groove besting a strong field. Blume took command early from his second row start and led the 20-lap main for 18 laps in the race that went caution-free. Jeff Larson advanced from the fourth row to take second ahead of Ryan Duhme.  Jason Bahrs also scored his first win of the season at Maquoketa topping the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 17, 2023) – Maquoketa Speedway hosted Oly’s Garage Night at the races on Saturday night. Beautiful weather and a very fast tacky track provided for an action-packed night of stock car racing.  The headliner of the night featured the return of the IMCA Sunoco Late Models and a field of 16 cars took the green flag for a 25-lap feature that went flag to flag. Logan Duffy took the lead from pole sitter Brandon Loos and went on to build a comfortable advantage. As the laps wound down, the lead pack swelled to three as Bryce Garnhart and Dalton Simonsen joined Duffy.  Both Simonsen and Garnhart were scored as leaders late in the race. The front trio came on lapped traffic as the white flag waved. Coming to the checkers the three all took evasive action to try and clear the lapped cars.
