COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 13, 2022) – Beautiful weather conditions greeted fans and drivers for the second night of racing at the CJ Speedway on Friday night. A swift racing program was run with the final checkered flag waving at 9:30 p.m.
Jarrett Brown had his Bill Falyer-owned Modified dialed in and scored the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win.
Brown stated in victory lane “We have had terrible luck so far this season with having lost two engines in the first three races that we have entered.” Brown found the right combination on Friday night and scored a convincing feature win over last week’s feature winner Troy Cordes. Maguire DeJong, in his rookie Modified campaign, ran a very strong third.
Dustin Vis has served notice to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers at the CJ Speedway that they are going to have to beat a very strong 20V car if they are going to get to victory lane. Vis chased down race leader and CJ veteran Kirk Kinsley and made the pass for the lead near the midway point of the main event on his way to the win. Kinsley crossed under the checkers in second ahead of Rod Staats.
Logan Anderson bested a strong field of Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod drivers on Friday night. Anderson passed early leader Will Wolf and went on to score a comfortable win in the night’s racing finale. Nick Aupperle raced from a third row start to finish a very strong second ahead of Colton Livezey.
Ryan Havel took to the extreme high side of the race track in the closing laps of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and advanced from fourth to pick up the win. Havel found a very fast line on the lip of the smooth track and passed Cody Staley on the white flag for the win. Jacob Floyd followed in Havel’s tire tracks to take second ahead of Staley.
Shane Barnes scored a very popular win in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Barnes was able to break away from a three-car battle for the lead to take the 10-lap feature win. The first week’s feature winner Jason Staley brought his sharp looking 27 car home second ahead of Alex Hayes.
Friday night racing will continue on May 20 with another full night of IMCA racing. Hot laps will take to the track at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
