Marshalltown’s Dale DeFrance Memorial features four IMCA divisions

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 26) – Ricky Thornton Jr. bested both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Tony Hofbauer took the lead in the Modified main and kept hold of it until Joel Rust ran him down at halfway.  Rust was looking strong but soon had Tim Ward and then Thornton bearing down on him.  Thornton slipped into second and set his sights on the leader.  He then made a slide job work with four laps left in the contest to nab the lead. Thornton sailed home to the win, Rust took second and Ward was third. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The fabled highbanks of Marshalltown Speedway are the setting for the $5,000 to win King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Thursday and Friday, April 8 and 9.  Stock Cars will run two sets of heats on Thursday with the top 10 in points locked into Friday’s main event. Entry fee for the weekend is $100. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers with a $20 entry fee each night. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both race for $500 each night and IMCA Stars Mod Lites complete the Friday card.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. both nights. Grandstand admission on Thursday is $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, and $20 for adults and $15 for seniors on Friday. By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 6) – Justin Kay stole the spotlight Thursday night, in one of the biggest IMCA Sunoco Late Model events of the season. Kay complemented his career 100th win in the division with a check for $1,925 at Marshalltown Speedway’s fourth annual Dale DeFrance Memorial. The headline event of the evening, held in honor of the patriarch of the well-known racing family, was 44 laps.
