Dotson, Johnson are best at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 9, 2022) – Bakersfield Speedway fired the engines back up for another exciting installment of the 2022 season, with IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars on the Saturday night card. 

Ethan Dotson stormed to P1 when racing got underway in the Modified main. The Bakersfield native, racing for car owner Troy Morris Jr., drove a flawless race despite four stoppages. Dotson was fantastic on restarts as Jerry Flippo brought a tad bit of heat in the last few laps. 

Dotson kept calm, cool and collected to pick up the main event victory. Flippo held onto second with Cody Laney, piloting the Terry Henry-fielded entry, in third.

In the Stock Car main, things started with a bang with a three-car fight for the lead. Justin Schweitzer managed to beat Dakota Schweitzer and Miranda Scott. Justin managed to beat out the competition on lap one, but the second circuit had Scott as the pacesetter. 

Justin Schweitzer managed to get back to the point on lap three and began to take off. However, just as Schweitzer was cruising right along, a caution occurred on lap 13. That brought a restart and resulted in Johnson coming into the picture.

Johnson challenged Justin Schweitzer on the high side and obtained the lead on lap 16. 

Before Johnson could get too far out front, the final stoppage of the race happened on lap 18. It brought about a green-white-checkered finish, but Johnson grabbed the victory.

Justin Schweitzer was a strong second with Scott ending the weekend third. The only non-Bakersfield racer in the field was Matt McEwan, from Arroyo Grande, in fourth, followed by Dotson in fifth.

Laney, Winebarger win Modified features during emotional weekend at Bakersfield 

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 13-14) – Racing took a backseat to remembering a much loved mem­ber of the Bakersfield Speedway family. Bailey Schweitzer, daughter of promoter Scott Schweitzer, was one of the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas. She was remembered in pre-race ceremonies before both nights of the Budweiser Nationals, with a balloon launch held before racing began on Satur­day. “This has been a race I’ve always wanted to win and especially being able to do it this year means a lot to me,” said Friday night IMCA Modified winner Cody Laney. “There were a lot of peo­ple here and a lot of work went into this weekend. Reichenbach, Nation open California IMCA Speedweek with Bakersfield wins

(April 30) – Clint Reichenbach and Jason Nation dazzled in their respective features as the California IMCA Speedweek presented by Hoppes Motorsports opened Friday at Bakersfield Speedway. Reichenbach parlayed his outside front row starting spot into the $1,000, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature win while Nation won the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event and $750 from the fifth starting spot. Forty-two Modifieds and 37 Northern SportMods saw action in the tour lidlifter. Reichenbach bolted into the front at the start and just a single caution waved during the Modified headliner, which meant for a long green-flag run.   Lapped traffic did come into play but was not a major obstacle for Reichenbach, who nonetheless was pressured by hard-charging Ethan Dotson toward the end of the race.   Reichenbach pulled away in the final laps to earn his first win of 2021 ahead of Dotson and Jake Pike.  Jerry Flippo grabbed fourth with Cody Laney, via transferring out of a “B,” ending in fifth.
