IMCA Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour starts Saturday in Jamestown

MANDAN, N.D. – Drivers have been pre-registered from 14 states and Saskatchewan for the upcoming Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars July 10-15, 2021. 

The six consecutive day tour starts in Jamestown at the quarter-mile Jamestown Speedway on the Stutsman County Fairgrounds, on Saturday, July 10. Jamestown was one of the original three tour tracks when the series began in July of 1990.

From there the series heads north to Minot at the 3/8-mile Nodak Speedway on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds for a Sunday-Monday doubleheader on July 11-12. The Monday date was to be held in Estevan, Sask., as it has since 2000, but the border remains closed due to the Covid pandemic, so Minot agreed to host the program. This allowed the rest of the Tour schedule to go on as scheduled. 

On Tuesday, July 13,  the quarter-mile Williston Basin Speedway hosts the fourth date of the Tour that is held at the Upper Missouri Valley Fairgrounds. Southwest Speedway in Dickinson has the Wednesday, July 14, date at their quarter-mile track south of town. The six-day tour concludes at the 3/8-mile Dacotah Speedway in Mandan on Thursday, July 15 for Championship Night. 

Mike Van Genderen will be the tour flagman at all venues. IMCA’s executive director of competition Dave Brenn will be the head official and John Gartner of Mandan is the tour director. All tour races will be streamed  worldwide via XR-TV. Passing points will be used to determine feature line-ups.

Over $140,000 in purse payout will be up for grabs, with the winner of the IMCA Modified division receiving $2,000 and the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner taking home $1,000. A $10,000 point fund will be paid to top 10 series drivers in the two divisions. In addition, over $20,000 in contingency awards will be awarded to the top 25 drivers in each division. These awards come from the top manufacturers and retailers of racing parts from all over the US.

Marriott and Flory see checkers in Mandan, Berry and Thornton are Dakota Tour champs

(July 11) – A great week of racing for the 30th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour was wrapped up by a nail-biting finale at the Dacotah Speedway that included one of the closest finishes in recent memory.  Jeff Taylor and Ricky Thornton Jr. led the IMCA Modified field to green for the final 30 laps on the tour. Gaylord finds glory at Dacotah, Zevenbergen wins 5th

MANDAN, N.D. (July 15) – When Tripp Gaylord drew the pole position for the IMCA Modified “A” feature on the Moritz Sport & Marine Dakota Classic Tour presented by Bismarck Motor Company at Dacotah Speedway, the real test began. A week with many frustrations for the Colorado racer finished out with a feeling of euphoria. Gaylord did double duty in the Modified and Stock Car all week long until Dacotah Speedway, handing the reins over to brother Ryan in order to focus on the Modified. He had made every feature in both classes until that point. Gaylord was a rocket from the drop of the green flag in Mandan, leading by over three seconds at one point and maneuvering lapped traffic to grab the $2,400 win. Thornton wins Dakota Tour thriller at Dickinson, Zevenbergen cruises to another Stock Car win

By Mike Spieker DICKINSON, N.D. (July 11) – Winning streaks by both inclement weather and Hunter Marriott came to an end Wednesday night at Southwest Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr. picked up the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour win at Dickinson, ending both the streak of two straight wins by two-time defending champion Marriott and then back-to-back rainouts. R.C. Whitwell and Shawn Strand made up the front row for the 30-lap main event. Whitwell grabbed the lead before Thornton got a run to go from fourth to second on lap two, getting by both Strand and Ethan Dotson. The top three distanced themselves from the rest of the field at the halfway point. With 14 to go, Whitwell found himself in lapped traffic and had to move away from the preferred bottom groove, which allowed Thornton to reel him in.
