Inaugural Corning Memorial this weekend at Cocopah

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 11) – His green to checkered run at the front of the IMCA Modified field Saturday night at Cocopah Speedway put Jake O’Neil in victory lane and on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional ballot. O’Neil took home $1,000 as the third different winner in as many Winter Nationals shows. Jeff Taylor held off Casey Arneson in the race for second, finishing five car lengths off the pace. Bobby Hogge IV and Lance Mari completed the top five. Joshua Cordova became the first repeat winner at Somerton, topping the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Gene Henrie scored the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory and Michael Johnson dominated the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main.  Scott Tenney led the first 18 times around the track in the Hobby Stock main. (Feb. 20) – Once more three Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing sanc­tioned classes were in competition at Cocopah Speedway on Saturday. IMCA Modifieds, Karl Kustoms Northern Sport Mods, and IMCA STARS Mod Lites complimented the card of the final night of the Western States Dwarf Car Nationals at the ⅜-mile track.   For the IMCA Modified main event, Marvin Mueller got the front on the drop of the initial green flag. He did his best to keep his car ahead of the competition but would be overtaken on lap three by Jerry Flippo. SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 6) – Patience put $1,000 in Tanner Black’s pocket. With a record 161 entries in the pits for opening night of the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals, Black returned to his home state to win Wednesday’s feature for IMCA Modifieds at Cocopah Speedway. He reeled in Russell Allen on the 16th circuit in a fast-paced main event that ran 25 caution-free laps. “I decided I needed to roll around the bottom and be patient,” said Black, who’d run second the first 15 times around the track. “Maybe he’d make a mistake and I could get around him.” Allen ended in second while defending track and Shaw Race Cars Western Region champion Chaz Baca was third.  Zane DeVilbiss and Ethan Dotson completed the top five.
