Aikey, Carter cash in with IMCA Modified wins at World Nationals

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 18-19) – Jeff Aikey and Cayden Carter were $2,000 IMCA Modi­fied feature winners at Marshalltown Speedway’s 14th annual World Nationals.

Aikey made it back-to-back trips to victory lane, following his Thursday night Dale DeFrance Memo­rial IMCA Late Model victory in the 500th and final Summer Series event. Carter joined Ai­key on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Saturday checkers.

Aikey drew the pole for Friday’s 25-lap feature and led the entire race to take the win. Carter and Ethan Dotson challenged Aikey several times, but he fended them off. Carter finished second and Dot­son took third, followed by Todd Shute and 18th place starter Tim Ward was fifth.

J.D. Auringer paced the opening laps on Saturday but Carter quickly moved from his fifth starting position and into the lead.  Carter never relinquished that lead, though Tom Berry did his best to reel him in.

Berry, Auringer, the 21st starting Dotson and Cody Laney completed the top five.

Dallon Murty raced from 10th starting to win Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature ahead of Shawn Ritter and Chance Hollatz. Damon Murty and Berry, driving from 21st in his divisional de­but, were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Saturday’s green, white, checkered finish ended with Jeff Mueller in front.

Also the Thursday victor at Marshalltown, Mueller was in second behind Berry when the white flag flew, then timed the winning move out of corner four to perfection and took the check­ers.  Berry was second and Steve Meyer third.

Brayton Carter, another winner on Thursday night, followed with the Friday Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMod checkers, leading flag to flag. Tony Olson was second and Kyle Olson third.

Kyle Olson went home with a World Nationals title under his belt after winning the Saturday fea­ture. Olson started fifth and snatched the lead away from Austin Kaplan just before halfway. 

Tony Olson started 18th and chased his cousin across the line. Third went to Kaplan.  

Eric Knutson weaved his way through traffic after starting 21st and caught rookies Braden Rich­ards and Carter Koop, making for a three-wide contest down the back chute on the final lap of Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main.

Knutson took the win at the line, with Richards going second and Koop third.

Kaden Reynolds fought past Koop on lap 11 and never looked back on his way to victory on Satur­day. Knutson ended in second with Koop taking third. 

More than 160 cars were entered each night of the season-ending special at Marshalltown.

Rust dominates and Damon Murty takes rich win while Graham earns first Marshalltown checkers

By Joyce Eisele  MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – It was Drury Automotive and Truck Repair Night at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday evening with extra money on the line for the IMCA Stock Cars and the IMCA STARS Mod Lites. While Joel Rust took a dominant win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Damon Murty went home $1,000 richer with his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win and Randy Bryan took the $350 IMCA STARS Mod Lite checkers.  Sam Wieben captured his first win of the season in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Bradly Graham took his first trip to victory lane at Marshalltown in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division. The Modifieds went 20 laps for their feature and Scott Simatovich led the first three circuits. Then Rust came flying on the top shelf of the track and snatched the lead away. Thornton is extremely good on Xtream Night at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 5, 2024) –  It was Xtream Powered by Mediacom Night at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday night, along with Iron Horse Aviation giving some a different perspective of the races from high above with helicopter rides. A strong field of 134 cars checked in to entertain fans who saw Dylan Thornton capture his first local feature in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Austin Kaplan also took his first trip to victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Matt Avila looked strong with his win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Bradly Graham got his first weekly win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Jason Masengarb snagged feature win number two on the year in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites, and Mitchell Bunch made it two in a row in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Rust, Reynolds among Marshalltown winners

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 10) – Joel Rust was the $1,000 IMCA Modified winner Friday at Marshalltown Speedway.  Tim Ward wasted no time in getting to the front from his second row starting position, sweeping to the lead by lap three after going topside. Ward continued his run at the front of the pack and stretched his lead. However, a caution at lap 10 tightened the field and by this time the 12th starting Rust had made his way into second.  When the race restarted, it was a close fought battle between the two until Rust, the defending Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational winner, took command at lap 15.  From there on it was Rust out in front the rest of the way to the checkers and the win. Ward had to be content with the runner-up spot.
