Prelude to Mayhem is Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Mother Nature continues her domination of Dodge City Raceway Park in 2018 with Saturday’s scheduled event atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas postponed due to inclement weather. With forecasts of excessive rain and frigid temperatures, Saturday’s sixth annual Modified Stam­pede has been rescheduled for Saturday night, May 19.  The event will feature a $750 winner’s share for IMCA Modifieds with Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks in action as well. With the opener nixed for a third consecutive time, Dodge City Raceway Park will now kick off the 2018 season on Saturday, May 5, with a full card of championship chase action.

By Whitney Hodgin DODGE CITY, Kan. – Due to popular demand, Dodge City Raceway Park Director Craig The Crowd Pleaser Dollansky rescheduled the Sept. 4 ‘Stock Car-Hobby Stock Shootout’ to the ‘Sooner Late Model’ special July 30 during the annual Dodge City Days festivities. “This will make an even bigger event at the track for people coming to town for Dodge City Days and looking for entertainment on the first night,” Dollansky said. After multiple drivers expressed an interest in attending the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Iowa’s Action Track, Dodge City Raceway Park has accommodated this request by making a schedule change.  “Competitors can now attend the IMCA Super Nationals at the Boone Speedway in Boone, Iowa, if they want,” said Dollansky.  There will be no longer be any races at Dodge City on Sept. 4. (July 18) – Jeff Kaup has done his fair share of winning at Dodge City Race­way Park in recent years.  However, on Saturday night, the Woodward, Okla., racer did it for the first time in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Ranks by taking the $1,000 winner’s share in a hard-fought Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval. Kaup has accumulated 20 feature wins while earning six IMCA SportMod championships over the past seven years at Dodge City.  This year, Kaup is pulling double-duty in both the SportMods and Stock Cars.  And with the big money on the line Saturday evening, Kaup emerged from a wild battle to ulti­mately take the win in the 25-lapper.
