Burgtorf scores first CJ Speedway win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 31) – The month of July came to a close with another outstand­ing night of racing at CJ Speedway. 

Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., has amassed a career that includes hundreds of wins but Friday saw Burgtorf score his first-ever win at Columbus Junction. Burgtorf took advantage of a front row start to lead the IMCA Modified feature flag to flag. Derrick Stewart challenged Burgtorf late in the main before settling for second.  

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never disappoint at CJ and Friday night’s main was another outstand­ing feature event. Jim Redman led early while 16th starting Jason See was steadily mak­ing his way to the front. Two-, three- and sometimes four-wide racing thrilled the fans through­out the feature.

See caught Redman late in the race and made the winning pass to continue his winning streak. Redman held on for second ahead of Adam Bell. 

The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature took the green with Dan Brockert taking the point position. Fifth row starter Logan Anderson chased down Brockert and took the lead and went on to score an impressive win ahead of buddy Colton Livezey, Brockert crossed under the checkers in third.  

The Mach-1 Sport Compact winner has become a familiar face in victory lane. Cody Staley contin­ued his recent winning streak by capturing the main event ahead of Josh Barnes and Wil­liam Michel.

CJ checkers fly for Cook, Struck

By Jerry Mackey   COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 5) – The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars provided the fans with door to door racing the entire 20 laps of their main event Friday at CJ Speedway.  Early in the race, a four-car pack raced for the lead before Jason Cook was able to break out of the pack and secure the top spot. Cook held off several challenges by Adam Bell to score the hard-fought win. Kirk Kinsley ran up front the entire 20 laps before settling for third.   Steve Struck shot into the lead from his outside front row start in the Mach-1 Sport Compact fea­ture and went on to record the win. Jared makes it Miller Time at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – Jared Miller has seen his motor luck go from bad to worse so far this season, but still had a good feeling going into his IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event Friday night at CJ Speedway. Those positive vibes became reality after the West Branch driver drew the pole start and held off heavy hitters Randy LaMar and John Irwin following a late restart for the checkers. The win was his career second in the IMCA class and first since 2010 at then-hometown Marshalltown Speedway. “We’ve blown up four engines so far this year, including one leading the feature here at Columbus Junction a couple weeks ago,” said Miller. “But I had a good feeling about tonight. CJ Speedway opens with large field of racers

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 6, 2022) – After three consecutive rain outs the 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Race season finally got underway at CJ Speedway on the Louisa County Fairgrounds. A large field of drivers took part in the season opener.  The final checkered flag of the night flew when the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds completed their main event with Dunkerton, Iowa ace Troy Cordes, making the two hour drive to Columbus Junction pay off by recording the win.  Cordes started in the seventh position and steadily worked his way to the front, taking over the top spot from Jarrett Brown. Cordes led half of the 16 laps and took the checkers ahead of a fast-closing Maguire DeJong, who had started in the sixth row. Brown held on to finish third ahead of Kyle Montgomery.   The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never fail to delight the fans with great racing and the opening night feature was certainly no exception.
