Off Road hosts Wednesday Don Weyrich Classic

(May 6, 2023) – Feature winners during Saturday night racing at Off Road Speedway typically came from a group of cars that broke away from the field early, then dealt successfully with challengers down the stretch. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, for example, saw a group of four cars, led by Terry Kester, pull away. As drivers maneuvered on both the high and low side of the track, seeking the best line, Tyler Afrank threatened to pass Kester while Cameron Meyer and Colby Langenberg competed for third place behind them. With five laps remaining, Afrank used the low side of the track to pressure Kester as Langenberg threatened Meyer on the high side. (May 26) – Cameron Wilkinson won his second straight IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock race Saturday at Off Road Speedway, after squeezing through the six cars aligned ahead of him to take the lead within two laps. He remained there during the caution-free 15-lap event to win handily. Jeremy Hoskinson and Gage Koch finished second and third, respectively. Cameron’s father Jason followed suit with a win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Wilkinson went to the front by going low in turn three and four with 11 of 15 laps remaining and cruised to victory ahead of Chad Bruns. Kyle Wilkinson won the duel with Tanner Pettitt for third, edging Pettitt at the finish line by just over a car length. In the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, Ramsey Meyer remained undefeated at Off Road Speedway this season with his third consecutive victory.

So his excitement was no surprise after his win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature Saturday at Off Road Speedway. A family-comes-first decision in 2013, to establish a local business in his hometown of Atkinson, put Poessnecker’s racing career on hold for four years until this season. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he said. “But I needed to concentrate on my family and the business, a hometown body shop which I bought from my uncle.” So this rseason, with the business underway and with the help of Dale Bittner of Big Daddy Rac­ing, Poessnecker – who began racing when he was 11 years old – is back on the racetrack. “I couldn’t have done it without Dale.
