RPM hosts Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic June 13, 14

HAYS, Kan. – IMCA Modifieds and touring IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars chase $1,000 top checks both nights of RPM Speedway’s June 13-14 Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic. 

A minimum of $125 will be paid to start each Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying fea­ture for the Modifieds. Both Sprint Car features are United Rebel Sprint Series Tour events.

Saturday and Sunday features for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars pay $400 to win. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $300 to win, Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win.

Both shows are draw/redraw and racing starts at 5 p.m. each day. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, state and track points will be awarded. 

Entry fee for Modifieds only is $25 each night. Reserved pit parking will be honored and all Sprint Cars will pit in the north extended area to the west of the pit trailer.

Make-up features for Modifieds and Hobby Stocks rained out on May 24 will be first on the open­ing night program.

Pit passes are $30 and or $10 for kids ages 12 and under accompanying a parent or guardian. Spectator admission is $15 and free for accompanied kids 12 and under.

Pits will open at 2 p.m. each day, the grandstand at 3 p.m. 

The Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic is presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions and sponsored in part by Evans Building Company Inc. of Wichita, S & S Trailers Sales of Ness City Miller Trucking of LaCrosse and R & R Towing of WaKeeney. 

Speed Shift TV will broadcast both nights.

Williams wins night one at Wheatshocker Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (July 11) – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Rac­ing took on night one of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway Saturday night. A stacked 20-car field was in attendance and Ty Williams was the front-runner.   Shane Sundquist and J.D. Johnson lined up on the front row of the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Shane Sundquist took off with the early lead, but not without Koby Walters eager to grab the top position.  Walters took the top spot and Ty Williams was next to challenge Sundquist for second place. A rim-riding Williams and Walters battled for the lead until lap 15 when Williams claimed the top spot. Walters hung on to the second position until the last lap when hard-charger Jason Martin nipped him at the line to take the runner-up position with Walters settling for third.   Feature results – 1. RPM hosts IMCA Hughes Sunflower Classic this weekend

HAYS, Kan. – The first green flag of the new season flies when RPM Speedway opens with its Mike ‘Huey’ Hughes Sunflower Classic on Friday and Satur­day, March 29 and 30. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win each night at Hays. Both features are qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational bal­lot. Also running both nights are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $750 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both for $500 to win. Champions crowned at RPM Speedway

By Sheldon Wickwar HAYS, Kan. (Sept. 16, 2023) – Track champions were crowned in five IMCA divisions Saturday evening at RPM Speedway. Tim Watts was scooting away with the lead while a four-wide battle broke out early for second in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main. Brett Smith took charge after a restart but Clay Sellard quickly found his way to the front. Point leader Dylan Sherfick was part of a three-car tangle and went to the pits for the rest of the night before Sellard brought the field to a restart with 12 laps to go. Dakota Sproul found some speed on the top side off the restart and started to close the gap behind the leader. The field would single file out in the closing laps, as Sellard was able to pull away from runner-up Sproul to grab the win. Daniel Gottschalk, Jake Nightingale and Brett Smith rounded out the top five. Despite getting caught up in an early wreck, Sherfick held good points lead to pick up the track championship.
