Soderberg Memorial Championship is Saturday at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – Another rousing season of championship points chase action is nearly in the books at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kan­sas.

After kicking off the 2019 chase in early April, the point season comes to a conclusion with Satur­day night’s seventh Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event. 

The Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars will square off with the United Rebel Sprint Se­ries for the final time of the year with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks finishing off the 2019 point chases as well. 

Saturday night’s racing action is set to get underway at 7:30 p.m. 

Zach Blurton is among the reigning Soderberg Memorial Championship event winners after best­ing last year’s crop of DCRP vs. URSS competitors with Brendon Gemmill, Dakota Sproul, Chris Oliver and Tathan Burkhart also securing championship night wins.

It was Blurton’s second Soderberg win after topping the inaugural event in 2013 with Taylor Ve­lasquez topping three of four in between with reigning DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals champion Jake Bubak picking up the other win in 2016. 

Brendon Gemmill is the only one to post multiple Soderberg wins in the Modified ranks after nab­bing his first one in 2015, while there have been six different SportMod winners in as many season finales.  

Current points leader Angel Munoz is the only multiple-time Soderberg winner in the Stock Car ranks with wins in 2017 and 2015 while there has yet to be a repeat winner in the Hobby Stocks. 

General admission for Saturday is $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompa­nied by an adult.

Dodge City sets June 14 practice to precede season opener

By Lonnie Wheatley  DODGE CITY, Kan. – At long last, the 2020 season opener atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas is within reach.  But before the season officially gets under way on June 20, the track has set an open practice for Sunday, June 14, from 5-9 p.m.  The practice set for the 3/8-mile oval precedes the Saturday, June 20 season opener that features the $750-to-win IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Roundup with the Precise Racing Products Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in action as well. Dodge City’s SportMod Mayhem ends with Kenny winning dramatic race to checkers

(Aug. 22) – Brandon Kenny took advantage of Luke Stallbaumer’s misfor­tune, then edged Mike Roach in a thrilling drag race to the checkers to take the $1,500-winner’s share in Dodge City Raceway Park’s seventh annual IMCA SportMod Mayhem North vs. South Duel.  Following a pair of cautions with one lap in the books, pole starter Stallbaumer slipped away from the field under an extended green flag run as Roach held down second with Jeff Kaup in third. After starting sixth, Kenny held steady until he began climbing through the pack after 10 laps.  Gaining momentum, Kenny made his way past Kaup for third on the 17th lap and then reeled in Roach by the 23rd lap as Stallbaumer cruised out front with nearly a straightaway ad­vantage.  Misfortune struck Stallbaumer at that point as his right rear tire went low and the duo of Roach and Kenny quickly reeled him in and made quick work of the slowing machine on lap 26.  Stallbaumer’s tire finally shredded a lap later, setting up a three-lap [Read More]

IMCA Stock Car Shootout this Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Dodge City Raceway Park fires back to action this weekend with the $1,000-to-win IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks on Saturday night atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas.  Last year’s special event for the Stock Cars evolved into a true “Shootout” with Hill City’s Kyle Pfeifer battling past Jason Rogers in the closing rounds to secure the win. Saturday’s racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets for are $12 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.  Pit passes are $30. Along with the Stock Cars it will also be a full slate of championship chase action for the Hambelton Racing DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMod and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.
