Soderberg Memorial Championship is Saturday at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – Another rousing season of championship points chase action is nearly in the books at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kan­sas.

After kicking off the 2019 chase in early April, the point season comes to a conclusion with Satur­day night’s seventh Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event. 

The Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars will square off with the United Rebel Sprint Se­ries for the final time of the year with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks finishing off the 2019 point chases as well. 

Saturday night’s racing action is set to get underway at 7:30 p.m. 

Zach Blurton is among the reigning Soderberg Memorial Championship event winners after best­ing last year’s crop of DCRP vs. URSS competitors with Brendon Gemmill, Dakota Sproul, Chris Oliver and Tathan Burkhart also securing championship night wins.

It was Blurton’s second Soderberg win after topping the inaugural event in 2013 with Taylor Ve­lasquez topping three of four in between with reigning DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals champion Jake Bubak picking up the other win in 2016. 

Brendon Gemmill is the only one to post multiple Soderberg wins in the Modified ranks after nab­bing his first one in 2015, while there have been six different SportMod winners in as many season finales.  

Current points leader Angel Munoz is the only multiple-time Soderberg winner in the Stock Car ranks with wins in 2017 and 2015 while there has yet to be a repeat winner in the Hobby Stocks. 

General admission for Saturday is $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompa­nied by an adult.

Pfeifer prevails at Dodge City Stock Car Shootout

(May 4) – Saturday night’s Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval lived up to its moniker with Kyle Pfeifer battling past Jason Rogers in the closing rounds of the 25-lapper to pocket the $1,000 winner’s share for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Pfeifer had his work cut out for him the in the 25-lap Shootout, gridding the feature field 12th as Tyler Walker and Mark Zorn led the way to the green flag. Walker gunned into the early lead and paced the initial eight circuits before surrendering the point to eighth-starter Rogers. Rogers was busy fending off Angel Munoz over the ensuing circuits while Pfeifer made his into the top five by the midway point. Championship Night is Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park

A full season of racing action atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas culminates with the sixth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event on Sept. 15. Saturday’s card that goes green at 7 p.m. marks the final round of championship chase action for each of the track’s five divisions including the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.  The Sprint Car portion of the program will pit the DCRP Sprint Cars versus the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS). Soderberg was very instrumental in helping form the URSS in its beginning 13 years ago and this Memorial event in his honor is always a popular race for the traveling series. Doing double duty at Dodge City, Kaup captures Stock Car Shootout

(July 18) – Jeff Kaup has done his fair share of winning at Dodge City Race­way Park in recent years.  However, on Saturday night, the Woodward, Okla., racer did it for the first time in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Ranks by taking the $1,000 winner’s share in a hard-fought Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval. Kaup has accumulated 20 feature wins while earning six IMCA SportMod championships over the past seven years at Dodge City.  This year, Kaup is pulling double-duty in both the SportMods and Stock Cars.  And with the big money on the line Saturday evening, Kaup emerged from a wild battle to ulti­mately take the win in the 25-lapper.
