Gustin motors to Marshalltown World Nationals win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 14-15) – Richie Gustin took the lead at the drop of the green and 50 laps later took home the biggest share of green from Marshalltown Speedway’s 12th annual World Nationals.

Gustin outran Jordan Grabouski for Saturday’s $10,000 IMCA Modified payday.

The outside pole starter was fast from the onset, getting the lead back after Grabouski enjoyed a brief stay at the front of the field, and then pulling away after the final restart with two laps to go.

Already on the ballot for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Gustin got the victory ahead of Grabouski, Cayden Carter, Tim Ward and former World Nationals winner Benji LaCrosse.

Terry Phillips, who’d won ahead of Gustin at last year’s World Nationals, was sixth.

Friday night feature winners at Marshalltown were Jeff Mueller in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Chanse Hollatz in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Austin Luellen in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

On Saturday, Damon Murty topped the Stock Car main, Dylan Nelson paced the Hobby Stocks and Jared VanDeest led the way to the Northern SportMod checkers.

Feature wins to Ward, Olson and Dhondt as 10 IMCA Stock Cars lock in to King of the Highbanks

By Joyce Eisele  MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 13, 2023) – Night number one of the $5,000 to win King of the Highbanks for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Marshalltown Speedway is finally in the books, after five years of trying. Weather outs and the pandemic had not allowed even one night of the two-day show to be run but Thursday night, it happened!  Ten Stock Car drivers locked themselves in for their big 50-lap feature Friday night while Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods each ran a full show. The Northern SportMods ran 20 laps for their feature event, with a $500 payday. Tony Olson took command of the race on lap four, quickly moving to the top spot after starting ninth. Logan Anderson and Brayton Carter gave Olson a few challenges but to no avail. Aikey takes two wins at Marshalltown’s DeFrance/Davis Memorial

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 11) – Jeff Aikey put on quite the show at Marshalltown Speed­way’s Dale DeFrance/Bill Davis Sr. Memorial, winning IMCA Modified and IMCA Late Model fea­tures to bring the curtain down on the Thursday show.  The finale was 44 laps of Late Model racing, in honor of the late DeFrance’s car num­ber.  Fittingly, his son Darrel drew the pole start, then led until Brian Harris nosed under him to take over at lap five.  Harris soon had Richie Gustin to contend with, and after running side-by-side, and a couple of slide jobs, Gustin made it stick and took over the lead. The race was far from over however, as a pair of no. 77 cars came calling.  Visiting York, Neb. racer, Cory Dumpert moved from 14th starting to run second and Aikey had moved from 19th starting to third. Benton County Frostbuster rescheduled to Sunday, Stuart opens tonight

VINTON, Iowa – Wednesday’s scheduled IMCA Frostbuster at Benton County Speedway has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 4.  Track officials made that announcement after determining they could not get the dirt oval at Vinton race-ready for the number of cars expected to compete on the original date.  Along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Mach-1 Sport Compacts will be on the Sunday card.  Racing starts at 5 p.m. and there will be Easter eggs for the kids. More information about the Benton County Frostbuster is to be announced. Frostbuster Week starts tonight (Tuesday) at Stuart Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, SportMods and Hobbies also run at Frostbusters Thursday, April 1 at Independence Motor Speedway; Friday, April 2 at Mar­shalltown Speedway; and Saturday, April 3 at Boone Speed­way.
