VENTURA, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds conclude the 2018 race season Saturday at Ventura Raceway.
Unofficially, one point separates leader Trevor Fitzgibbon and Donald Houghton and Luis Espinoza, who are tied for second going into the Sept. 15 finale.
Grandstands open at 3 p.m., qualifying is at 3:30 p.m. and racing is at 5:30 p.m. Adults spectator admission is $15, seniors, military and students are $11 and kids 12 and under are free.
VENTURA, Calif. (June 22) – His late-race pass netted defending track champion Trevor Fitz-Gibbon another IMCA Modified victory Saturday night at Ventura Raceway. Andrew Greiman led the first 18 of 20 laps, only to be passed by Fitz-Gibbon on the 19th circuit. Following Fitzgibbon, Greiman and Donald Houghton at the finish were Jack Parker and Terry Hershberger.
VENTURA, Calif. (June 8) – Defending champion Trevor Fitz-Gibbon was the IMCA Modified feature winner Saturday at Ventura Raceway. The 20-lap main event was very competitive race and saw Scott Olsen lead laps 1-8. He was passed by Austin Grawboski on lap nine. Grabowski led to lap 18, when Fitz-Gibbon passed him and went on to take the win. Following Fitz-Gibbon to the line were Grabowski, Jack Parker, Andrew Greiman and Luis Espinosa. After the race, Grabowski failed to go to the IMCA claim area and was disqualified. After five races in 2019, Fitz-Gibbon leads Parker by six points.
VENTURA, Calif. – A second IMCA division runs at Ventura Raceway this season, with five races dates scheduled for Mach-1 Sport Compacts. The 4-cylinder class is on Saturday programs March 13, April 10, May 22, June 19 and Sept. 25. “This is a division we wanted to run last year,” said promoter Jim Naylor, who saw his 2020 season end in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “We like the rules and we’re excited about them. We want to get this division going and see it be successful.” Ventura is the first California track to sanction the Sport Compacts, which last ran a full season in The Golden State in 2009, this year. IMCA Modifieds have run at Ventura since 1992. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season for that division opens March 6 and also ends Sept. 25. “We appreciate the long-time support our Modified division has enjoyed at Ventura,” noted IMCA Vice President of Operations Jim Stannard, “and look forward to new success there with the Sport Compacts.”
