Knight shines in Lincoln County stop for URSS

(Sept. 14) – Zach Blurton notched his third career Jerry Soderberg Memorial win in the seventh annual 25-lap Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car vs. United Rebel Sprint Series event Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.  Blurton gunned into the lead from the pole position and led throughout to finish off his URSS champion­ship campaign. Blurton kept Luke Cranston at bay all the way. Behind the lead duo, several drivers held down the show position along the way including Ty Wil­liams in the early going and then Taylor Velasquez briefly before Jake Martens took command of the position at the midway point and held it the rest of the way. By David Smith, Jr., OKTidbits DODGE CITY, Kan. – A busy stretch consisting of two weekends of racing for the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks off this com­ing Saturday night as the tour makes its second trip of the young 2019 race season to Dodge City Raceway Park and another battle with the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprints. Three events have been completed thus far this season with Jake Martens of Fairview, Okla., picking up the season-opening victory at 81 Speedway back on April 5.  The next night the tour made its first trip of the season to Dodge City where track regular Luke Cranston of Ness City picked up the victory.  In the last event held back on May 4, Lincoln, Neb.’s Jason Martin claimed the checkered flag at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte.  Brian Herbert will come into the night’s racing action as the point leader while two-time and defend­ing tour champion Zach Blurton is just four-points behind. HAYS, Kan. (July 11) – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Rac­ing took on night one of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway Saturday night. A stacked 20-car field was in attendance and Ty Williams was the front-runner.   Shane Sundquist and J.D. Johnson lined up on the front row of the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Shane Sundquist took off with the early lead, but not without Koby Walters eager to grab the top position.  Walters took the top spot and Ty Williams was next to challenge Sundquist for second place. A rim-riding Williams and Walters battled for the lead until lap 15 when Williams claimed the top spot. Walters hung on to the second position until the last lap when hard-charger Jason Martin nipped him at the line to take the runner-up position with Walters settling for third.   Feature results – 1.
