Ruter cruises at Kossuth County

ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 6) – The race didn’t start the way Nick Meyer hoped it would, but it ended just the way he wanted it to.  Meyer won his career-first Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds feature Thursday at home track Kossuth County Speedway, earning $1,000 and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “It was pretty spectacular, this being a Dirt Knights race, let alone at my home track,” he said following the big Denny Hovinga Fair Night event. “This was a pretty huge win. By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 14) – Along with talent, winning a special in dirt track racing frequently in­volves two other factors, a little luck and a good draw. Dylan Nelson used all those things to top a big field of IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks in a $1,000 to win main event Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Nelson started on the outside of the front row and led all 20 laps. The caution flew on four occa­sions to regroup the field, but each time Nelson pulled away from the pack. Cody Nielsen ended up in second place with Chanse Hollatz placing third. Leah Wroten took fourth and Greg Sidles was fifth. Kyle Sidles went from 22nd starting to eighth as the hard charger. By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (May 28) – Jason Briese led a fast field of IMCA Modifieds to the flag stand and all the way to the checkered flag Thursday night at Kossuth County Speedway.  Briese built a comfortable advantage early as there was a four-car battle for second between Nick Meyer, Jeremy Mills, Brandon Beckendorf and Kelly Shryock. Austin Wolf joined that group to create a six-car breakaway through the first half of the race. Mills took over the runner-up spot at the half way mark of the feature as it was a three-car breakaway by then with Briese, Mills and Shryock.  Briese continued to hold the top spot and the only delay to his appearance in the winner’s circle was a yellow flag on nine as the Cleghorn driver gladly took the double checkered flags from flagman Logan Kelly first.
